This three years (about) of improvement in my art. According to my computer, the one on the right was finished in December of 2009.
The one on the left is, more or less, my attempt to re-create the three year old drawing. It didn't end up looking a lot like the old one for a number of reasons. For one, updated wardrobe and appearance of the character. For another, part of my progression as an artist has been moving away from drawing characters just sitting there. There's no reason for his hand to be on that sword which, incidental, is in a sheath that is not attached to anything. I just didn't know how to draw an empty hand at the time. In the new picture, I've actually made the character doing something, specifically reloading his revolver. It was the best I could think of for something that would put him in a similar pose while still keeping at least one common element (the revolver.)
Perhaps more importantly though was the relative effort behind these images. The old one was the best I could do at the time. I don't know exactly how long I worked on it, but I'm sure I shat brix over it. The newer one however was derped out while watching Breaking Bad and trying to fix my computer. That's the bare minimum of fucks I can give about a picture.
Still don't know how to draw shoes though.
