As a fan of 'Deadliest Catch' I can sort of understand Nipita's position. The deckhands on that show likewise rake in small scale fortunes every crab season, yet a fair chunk of them quickly prove they're too young, or too financially inexperienced, to know what to do with suddenly being handed that kind of money, leading to it being squandered in some manner. Says a lot that the middle aged crewmates who have 10-20 years of crab fishing under their belts are typically the ones who've actually put thought into planning their spending so their earnings go into things like investments and housing (though that's still not a given).

Obv don't know the story about this bun but this give me less that vibe and more so a "she has no concept of money and how to use it" situation. From everything that's been described that bunny is from pretty far out in the boonies from a seemingly very closed off society. She probably legitimately doesn't understand how much she been paid and the fact the she can use that to build a new life.
