"You have broken the laws of the stone circle. For that, your life is forfeit."
Faebruary: Regular viewers of this channel will know that a lot of my creative focus goes into Kroashent, my ongoing fantasy series. There's a ton of background lore for the series, so I thought it might be fun and helpful to run a little project to introduce to viewers new and old, to the characters and creatures of Kroashent, with a twist!
(Looks like we will have some March overflow)
Fleur: Once a street urchin and thief in the streets of the Lethan city of Gwitreg, Fleur, along with her best friend Adele, ran afoul of a powerful Sidhe lord, who demanded that the pair steal an ancient artifact from Ahes Dahut, Queen of Ys-Beneath-the-Waves. When the job went badly, the pair escaped drowning by joining the daughters of Ys, becoming Marie-Morgane themselves. The pair went on to become Merrow, the special infiltrators and assassins who carry out the interests of their sunken home.
Hosegueannet: The Hosegueannet exist in opposition to the Boleguean. While the Boleguean serve as judges and arbiters, the Korrigan of the Cromlec'h see themselves as instruments of vengeance, acting as assassins and enforcers of the Korrigan Troupes when threatened by outsiders. Known for their blood-soaked red caps, the Hosegueannet are feared across the continent, unrelenting in their quest for vengeance when set upon a target.
Val's Notes: Fleur is another of the Marie-Morgane, and she seemed like a fitting character to represent the Hosegueannet. There's an interesting link between the Merrow, the Mermaids of Scotland, and the Redcaps, in that both are known primarily for their distinctive coloured headgear. In Kroashent, the Merrow are an organization within the Marie-Morgane, co-opting the symbolism of their land based equivalents in their dealings.
I decided to base their design off of halflings to contrast with the dwarfish Boleguean, and draw on elements of the Redcap, vicious fae of the Scottish Highlands, to fill out the rest. This includes their eponymous hat as well as their heavy metal shoes. Redcaps operate on slasher logic, teleporting to ambush their victims, returning from being "killed" and other such feats. Its honestly shocking that they aren't used in movies.
