Faebruary: I am very excited to share this monthlong project with you all! Regular viewers of this channel will know that a lot of my creative focus goes into Kroashent, my ongoing fantasy series. There's a ton of background lore for the series, so I thought it might be fun and helpful to run a little project to introduce to viewers new and old, to the characters and creatures of Kroashent, with a twist!
For the month of February (or rather "Faebruary!" I will be posting drawings of the characters of Kroashent as different creatures from Alvez, their world. To begin, these creatures will be the "Tuath", the sapient, social creatures of the world (think the playable species of D&D). (We'll address the beasties and things that go bump in the night in a future project)
Azelma an Diuid: A Fomorian noblewoman of a clan fallen out of favour in her home islands, Azelma traveled with her exiled family to the continent, establishing themselves as part of the Anjevin Court. It was here that the gentle Azelma fell into the company of Enora de Chinon. While many assume Azelma to be Enora's bodyguard, because of her formidable size and strength, she actually serves a role as an advisor and healer aboard the Radiant Dawn.
Selkie: The gentle sealfolk of Northern waters, the Selkie are a nomadic Merfolk Tuath, relying primarily on trade, hunting and gathering. They often stick to the shallow waters along the coastline, rarely traveling deep into the open waters of the Mor Marv. The Selkie are shapeshifters, relying on sealskin pelts to shift between different forms. While some have taken on Bediz or landbound fae families, few can resist the call of the sea for long.

Val's Notes: I'll admit, I had some trouble finding an approach to the Selkie, and may revisit their design from the ground up in the future, but Azelma, an islander from the frigid North, seemed like an ideal candidate to represent them. I decided to try a new look for her, different from her sky blue silks and noblewoman's garments, with a simpler costume, inspired by the traditional outfits of the Orkney Islands.
