"Oops! Did that vial of ectomutagen accidentally explode while you were handling it? Talk about Mr. Butterfingers over here. And hey, speaking of fingers, I hope you still remember how to type with talons.
I'll bet you thought you got it all out of your system when they went through the trouble of making you human again. Wait... could it be? You don't even know what I'm talking about, do you? They messed with your memories, didn't they? Well, Max, you're one lucky guy. Not everyone gets to transform into an ectomutant twice in one lifetime. Don't worry. It'll all come back to you, like riding a bike.
You should know that your presence has triggered the security alarm. I've taken the liberty of leaving you a laser pistol. Half-charged, of course. We wouldn't want to make this too easy, would we?
-The Benefactor
Eight years have passed since Ecto Day, but to Max it feels like a lifetime ago, a distant dream. He remembers the first contact with the Malvians, how the world united under America's leadership, how in a blaze of summer glory the forces of Earth drove back the space invaders, and how the following technological revolution stopped the spread of ectomutagen.
He remembers leaving the Army for a job in Hollywood as an on-set military advisor. He remembers snagging a leading role in an action movie against all odds, how his life became a blur of fame and fortune, how he left his old life far in the rear view mirror. Then, as the droplets of the familiar glowing liquid seep through his skin and course through his blood, he remembers how the last few years felt so unreal.
It is the future, the year 2024. As Max shoots and melees his way through the aliens dispatched to stop him, half-terrified by the violence his body wreaks, he glances out the window and sees the distant Earth... and the Malvian mothership orbiting it.
