Happy [Belated] New Year everyone!
I hope 2024 has been treating you well thus far...So, I wanted to make this piece my Christmas image for 2023, but I didn't think it matched the season. So I opted for the new year instead, as I think it has more meaning for us this year.
So last year, a number of friends on FB were reposting these comic strips of a young fox-girl being bullied by her human classmates. And at first I thought it was just probably a certain part of the story.
But then as another chapter was reposted, and another... I began to notice there was no improvement in this girl's story. She was constantly being mistreated just because she was furry.
Finally I decide to look up this comic hoping to see some silver lining in her story, but was shocked by what I found.
So the manga is called "Fur Just Wanna Be Friends" by Theterm.
And it's basically about a fox-girl named "Fur" living amongst humans who basically harass her for being an Anthro-fox.
And each chapter is about her going through school, trying to be nice to people, and having people just treating her like absolute garbage regardless.
I was appalled by the story, my heart sank. I was like "What is THIS!? Where's Child Protective Services when you need them!?"... Because there was little to no relief for this girl!
I just wanted to jump into the comic and pull her out as fast as I could, get her away from these terrible people as soon as possible.
And I hated the fact (at the time) there was no peace for her. It pained me to see her suffering so much. So I thought I'd do something to give this girl some bit of solace. And while I personally probably couldn't do it alone myself, I knew there were proper authorities who could. A couple of furs themselves who've been in the same position before...
Now, at the time of doing this image, as mentioned she was in poor condition.
But I'm happy to report her story has made a good and rather unexpected turn (SPOILER: She finally makes a friend).
I'm just hoping it doesn't make a sudden U-Turn for the worse. Here's hoping the previous chapters are long behind her.
And while her story is a harsh one, I think symbolically it's something for us to reflect on this coming year. We may encounter strife & hardship, but you never know what tomorrow will bring. You never know who'll be there to lend a helping hand.
2023 was a tough year, and there's no guarantee 2024 will be any better. But like "Fur", we just gotta keep our heads high, never give up, and keep moving forward no matter what obstacles stand in our way.

Ya know, it truly speak about what kind of person these "people" who does this kind of thing to hurt and harass, then claim they're Normal and making up excuses to have the moral high grounds.
If you ask me, the moment they start harass and hurt someone, they lost the moral game and should be treated as a criminal.

I'm with you here, Zeta. It's for this very reason that I've found myself developing contempt for the word normal, given the increasingly hurtful and downright abusive ways people like this use the word to marginalise not just our community, but anyone who they consider too different to them.
I'm sorry but what the &%#@ Being someone who's been bullied for a good deal of my school life I can relate a bit to what Fur's going through, but geez, this brings to a whole new level. It makes me sick to even think someone could come up with something like this. I can't imagine that rich girl ever being a true friend to Fur...more like some crazy stocker. I'm assuming that the first girl who protected her at first, Night will end up being her true friend.

Kate is... in a weird position where she does like Fur but seems to want them to be pet and master. Like she does flat out kick a dude bullying Fur out in front of the school and then knocked out another two making fun of Fur at a drinking fountain, as well as wanted to make sure Fur eats actual food, but at the same time Kate sees Fur not as a wolf-like human but a human-like wolf. The author obviously has something important planned involving Fur's borderline stalker/second friend, but what I have zero damn clue.
Hopefully it'll involve Kate stop seeing Fur as a pet or animal and start seeing her as a person. Because again girl's got good intentions they're just channeled through the wrong mindset.

Yeah agreed, I always laugh at people who think that. For One it's unoriginal at this point, and two it's ironic.
I called out a guy who once said "Ew Furry, stop making so much porn", or something like that, on one of my YT comments. And I basically said "Yeah, cause humans TOTALLY can't do the same thing."
Surprisingly he actually apologized the next day.

So far I know this is a remake of a previous try to make this comic, having improved on story telling and art style makes it easier to approach... but yeah it is still hard to get through with the onslaught of abuse. I try to stay away from it but I stumble over it from time to time, because dang it, Fur is just so adorable with her expressions, especially when she is happy, and her design is very well done.
Still people to this day that treat anyone with a furry profile picture like trash. Or worse there are still streamers and youtubers that will rally people to them by just throwing out some random hate to furries. And why? Just cause. It's easy to hate, and they make for simple rally point. To them that makes it ok. Let's them get out basically racist statements without having to worry about being canceled.

And with the world trying to increasingly separate us we should try and be like Fur, and be friendly. Not let the hate close us off and fuel more hate. We're all basically the same, slight changes in the externals, but all the same internals. We should not be trying to separate cause that makes us weaker in times of need, not stronger.

Hmm going off that excerpt about the story I think it’s a hilarious parody of the real world of you think about it. Given what people and of coarse even some politicians have been vocalizing about furries for at least the last five years. It truly seems to encapsulate the pure bitter onslaught of verbal garbage they will hurl if it means garnering attention from their peers. Even if it will cause significant harm to the person or group. At least that’s what I’m getting off your short description of it. Tho I am really liking the energy this piece brings. A real “I got your six.” sort of feel.
Out of morbid curiosity, I decided to have a look at this comic. This hits close to home for me, since I was never able to fit in before I found the Furry community, and I endured a lot of ostracism and bullying inside and outside of school. God, reminds me of the one guy who drew pics about a blind girl being treated in a similar manner, having her violin stolen, bullied and kicked around. I think some people took it upon themselves to draw positive art for the character. I dunno what came of it tho, it’s been a while since I saw that artist’s work again.
The author doesn't seem like the type to enjoy this kind of thing, so more likely it was made to show how bad the community gets treated at times and how hard it is to find real friends outside of it. Night's one of those friends, and Kate... eh personally see her as halfway there as she does want to help Fur but is doing it with the wrong mindset.

That comic ironically reads like Boba's infamous "I Will Survive" (which coincidentally also features Nick and Judy). I.E. Something made purely for the sake of controversy. Thank you for at least putting something of a positive spin on its 'message'.

Reminds me of that one adult artist on twitter who often drew pictures or short comics of one of their OC's; a sweet, trusting little blind girl, and having her be tricked and bullied by her classmates and abused by horrible parents (Nothing explicit, but it's clearly meant to make you feel bad)... pretty much just because they knew people would eventually want to commission her in more wholesome situations... which, I mean... it worked. So while that's horrible. I do gotta respect the hustle, certainly ONE way to drum up commission interest. Lol
The friend he means is Night. There I a girl who wants Fur as a pet, Kate, but she also does want to help Fur and hates seeing her bullied and made fun of. Probably going to be a whole process getting her to see Fur as a person and not a pet, but that could end up being used to lighten the mood with Fur and Night getting exasperated at Kate's progress.
Gave this series a read myself and it's pretty interesting so far. HOWEVER, I would say it's definitely walking on thin ice as I already don't enjoy how badly all the kids treat Fur so far. But seeing Night treat her much better and even Kate trying to defend Fur from bullies has me somewhat hopeful regarding the series. Hopefully it doesn't simply turn out to be a rage-bait or misery-porn series like most people are assuming. I've already dealt with another series that was like that and I don't want to end up stumbling upon another series like that.
As for your art, it looks incredible! Love seeing her being comforted and helped out by everyone's favorite bunny and fox duo. She absolutely deserves comfort, joy, and friendship.

In several of my settings (including a CnC Generals/Tiberium fusion setting), the Government would start MAKING examples of both the kids and adults.
Oh, and not in fines and jail time. We're talking outright executions just so they can be used as examples for the next ten generations. Give them the Mr. Morden treatment, if you will.

In the aforementioned version of GDI, they're the Good Man of the setting. Not paladins in shining armor, but people trying to do good in a universe filled with self-replicating Femotech (Tiberium), the GL-Fucking-A existing, a Russia that went full-on Earth 21X0 Eurasian Dynasty (minus taking over Europe), a China that doesn't want to be subservient to anyone, and the nicest of the lot being the Brotherhood of Nod of all people.

Read the most recent chapter, with Night disavowing their friendship out of peer pressure. I want to believe eventually Night will change their mind back but I have no faith in stuff like this that just exists to punish its main character to elicit sympathy from the reader, when all it does is make me hate everyone else in the story.
