It was like being in the eye of the storm. Nothing but chaos surrounded Keathatah as she shouted a rallying cry to her troops. Her eyes landed on the opposing commander across from her. A scarlet clad giant, pressing a finger to his forehead in concentration, a weaver inducing fear in her troops. She could feel the power thrumming about her even if her will could stave off the intoxicating emotion, it did not mean her soldiers would last forever. Already she saw squads routing in panic as they claimed being devoured by insects, or that the enemy was invincible, or other fears that she could not hear over their cries.
If her troops couldn't hold out for another thirty minutes the line would crumple here and the enemy would manage to push on to the valley. Thirty minutes though, that was all they needed for the reinforcements to strike from the flank and pummel the marauders into the dust.
"Do you see your demise, Keathatah?" the voice echoed from across the field to her. "You are too young and naïve to believe you have any hope in winning this fight. Surrender now and I promise your troops will be spared from the Grinder."
She snarled in disgust at the enemy commanders taunt. The Grinder was the invaders choice of worship. Their gluttony knowing no bounds as they claimed everything to be devoured. The Outsider laughed as she delayed in a reply. She knew she had to do something, but words alone wouldn't cut it here. She needed something to get her troops to snap out of the fear state the enemy had put them under, something to-
Then she saw it.
Gleaming upon the ground she saw the repurposed weapon in the hands of a dead comrade. A drakhen officer she had trusted and hired to join her here. Nikos was dead, but she would put his weapon to good use.
She broke from cover, shouting to her body guards to give her covering fire. They protested but immediately set to her command. She scooped up the heavy weapon, felt its reassuring weight and stormed ahead. She could feel the onlooking eyes of her soldiers starring in dumb fundament as their commander charged the enemy.
Keathatah new what she was doing. The jugerzoid were proud warriors, and they fought hard for their place, but they lacked team discipline. She shot for an opening and broke past the first line of troops. They were two thirds of her size but packed a lot of mean muscle. If only one got a hand on her, she would probably dead.
Then suddenly, when it looked like she wouldn't make it, a hailstorm of fire came from the side as she noticed Gunther's Gunners storming up with her on the flank. Her fifth platoon was being lead but Lieutenant Gunther himself, one armed and the other carrying the companies standard as she shouted. "Follow her, follow Big Mom to Odium!"
She fought back a tear at the sheer bravery the humans exhibited, but she was proud of them. She dodged and weaved around the confused giants, the commander was in sight and she would take this bastard down.
"Your mine!" she shouted.
"You are nothing but an upstart!"
The weaver gathered in power, his single eye glowing bright as lightning arched from the occular orb, gouging an inferno across the land as he tried to get her.
Keathatah leapt into the air. Dodging the attack as she filled her wings with air glided over. She raised her new weapons and aimed it right at the vile commander who dared challenge her and her troops.
"Who do you think you are?!"
"A bitch with a cannon!"
She pulled the trigger on the 125mm rifling blaster, as the internal combustion screeched with a following roar as the explosive crystal bullet flew out of the muzzle with enough force to blow a hole in the giants chest. The kickback threw her back a bit, but she landed on her feet and struck a pose for her troops to see. Her coat flapping in the blazing trenches, and the enemies commander under her.
"We are the Sapphire Wolves, there is no sizeable foe we cannot bring down!"
The roaring cheer drowned out the cries of terror as the giants fled from the inspired human troops.
