Hrothgar Cosplay 2023: Idaho Ren Faire, "Beltane" [01]
A photo taken at the Beltane Faire event hosted by the Idaho Ren Faire, myself in full cosplay representing a character named "Balthazaros Shadowmane". While the character is one I play in FFXIV—a Hrothgar Black Mage—in a generic or D&D fantasy setting, Balthazar is a Beastman Wizard who has over the course of decades mastered a wide array of magical arts. A jack-of-all-trades, Balthazar's strength as a beast combined with the wisdom and study of many years have made him into a formidable figure whose greatest weakness is empathy and socializing with others. His exceptional power is tempered by his adherence towards seeking balance in all things, giving him an amoral stance that does not see him exert his influence unduly upon the world.

Maaaany thanks for that! The hair is Kanekalon Hair Extensions, 1B was the color before being dyed to custom shades and blending.
And indeed! I got that belt loaded! So much so that it fell off once or twice—I need to punch some more holes in it so that I can tighten it better...

Well golly, I'm super delighted to promote that positive perspective!! Not a lot of Hrothgar cosplays out there from what I've seen, really cool that I can count myself among the few and share some inspiration with others in seeing these characters brought to life!
Alas, despite wanting to be inspirational, the boring and honest answer is Time, Effort, and Money.
The less boring answer is: I try to visualize what I want. If I can't visualize it, or if the image in my mind is "blurry" or "constantly changes", then it's not something I'm gonna spend time/effort/money on.
But if I see something inspirational—a photo, a piece of clothing, a certain fabric, or a cool prop—I'll layer various inspirations on top of one another, and if they produce the visualization, and if it's "stable" in my mind, then my brain starts making connections on how I could build everything, to bring the idea to life.
From there, it's about having the tools, getting the resources, making a checklist on all the things that need to be done, and then, most importantly: doing it!
But I have a hard time forcing myself to do things I don't want to do. That's why I gotta be particular about all kinds of things: "how solid is the idea?" or "will I still be interested in this a month from now?" Heck, I have a problem right now in that an awesome friend is hosting a D&D game, and I can't decide on my character because I'm trying to look 6 months into the future and I keep asking myself, "will I still be interested in playing this character half-a-year from now...?"
It's tough for me. I like instant-gratification. So I work hard to bring things to life quickly before I lose interest, lol. Anyway, cheers for the question! Hope I didn't drown you in the response! xP
