The nuwisha, Ozlin Koyootl. A cultural liaison and monster researcher.
Born to a mother too young to properly raise him, he was swiftly adopted by an older couple who had been having difficulties having children of their own. For the husband, a proper heir for his business was in order. For the wife, who had wanted more than anything to be a mother. Ozlin proved to be an odd child - he very rarely ever cried, even when injured, often looking to wrapped up in his own thoughts and curiosities than acknowledging hardship.
Ozlin's oddities continued as he grew older, focusing on a single subject at a time until his satisfaction before abandoning it for the next obsession. It caused the tutors that his father paid for no end of displeasure, as the young heir disregarded anything not specifically in his sphere of interest at the time. This grew to annoy his father as well, as Ozlin abandoned thoughts of the family business for some other obsession. His father did not take it well, delivering the boy an ultimatum: work for his business, or face disinheritance and disownment. Ozlin prickled at the constraint, and - despite the protests of his mother - spoke in anger against his father and left of his own accord.
It would be a few weeks later when a messenger arrived from his father, carrying with him an itemized invoice of all of the expenses connected to Ozlin's childhood and youth, including the fee charged by the orphanage to adopt him. With the invoice was a note that failure to pay would result in court action, wielding the guild and legal contacts that his father had gained through his business. With no way to pay this bill, Ozlin had no choice but to flee the cities, hitching a ride with a visiting caravan.
It was during this journey that Ozlin was introduced to his first 'monster': a forest-dwelling hag that had taken forceful control of an orc tribe. The orcs had took the caravan, capturing Ozlin and many of the others to become material components in the hags' spellcasting. What the hag couldn't possibly have predicted, however, was Ozlin's studies into the orcish pantheon in his youth, as well as his clever charm. Convincing the his orcish captors of divine displeasure, the hag was driven off and the caravan members freed.
Ozlin, however, decided to stay with the orcs for a time. Living among them was a very different feel to what he had been used to in the cities. This sparked his ultimate interest, the one thing he never seemed to tire of: cultural lore. After witnessing the tribe's interactions with dire wolves and their defeat of a manticore, this interest spiraled into a second obsession: monster studies. He would go on from the orc tribes, to goblin clans, to kobold warrens and gnoll warbands. Many of them weren't "monsters", just... different. Those differences were fascinating to Ozlin, who theorized that many of these creatures could be peacefully interacted with instead of simply disposed of by wandering adventurers. Not all, but many.
Thus continued his wanderings, all the while dogged by agents of his father, seeking compensation for his 'lost investment'.
