Oh man, here it is. This is the image I am so far the most proud of. Why? Because, while we did use about 5 or 6 different references, we drew over absolutely nothing in this picture. There was no point at which I moved the references to draw over it on a tricky part, and the angle this image is at is different than the one that all the references is. This image is a completely whole, original picture from my brain, at a perspective that has only ever been created by my brain. And that makes it freaky to look at, but also a huge confidence boost. You know you're an artist when you can do something that looks this good without ever using a ruler or a single traced line.
I don't normally do mechanicals, mostly forms and figures, so this was a great challenge for me. I'm gonna have to do a bunch of shots like this for my webcomic to become a reality, so I'm gonna have to get good at it. Same at drawing mecha, which is another weakness of mine.
I almost forgot her tail, but I remembered at the last minute and decided that it's sticking through a hole in the chair to float behind her.
This cockpit may look like Gundam faire, but it's actually filled with liquid perflubron which is manipulated by the machine to support the pilot against gee forces and ensure proper oxygen delivery from the pilot. Speaking is impossible in the liquid, but most pilots capable of using these machines already have telepathy, aided by the machine's cockpit serving as a psionic amplifier. The controls are small paddles at the end of each arm of the chair, which have recesses in them for each finger and thumb, and the paddle itself moves separately from the chair, not that I did a great job depicting that. It'll be more obvious in a different perspective.
I'm not happy with the headrest, it's not supportive enough for her head. I am assuming there is a thing sticking up supporting the back of her head but we cannot see it at this angle, but I think it might be best to reconsider this approach and go with something that's going to be more solid as she's gonna be pulling a huge amount of gees in there.
If you're a NERD like me you can probably guess which cockpits I was referencing for this, it should be easy if you've seen enough anime
Don't you be a dummy! Buckle your safety belt!
