Today we have a treat for those long time watchers of our program. Many years ago some of you may recall our documentary on the "mermaid wrapper" spider. Today we are pleased to showcase brand new footage of the elusive, and endangered species. Due to overfishing of the wrapper's main prey, the population has been in the decline. But here, today, we are witness to one of Nature's great wonders, the hunting habits of this marvelous, yet terrifying creature.
Living underground within submerged cave systems the Mermaid wrapper will build a network of webs above water which it will then submerge into nearby water sources. These sorts of caves naturally attract curious mermaids who will unintentionally swim right into the spider's web, entangling them within like a fish net. Once triggered, the spider is able to release tension on the web, causing the trap, mermaid and all to be hauled up and out of the water where the spider can begin work on its prey.
Here today we see a beautiful catch in the form of a lovely, red-headed mermaid. As you can clearly see the spider's prey is helplessly entangled within the large mesh of webbing. despite the thin, wispy appearance of the strands, each one is strong enough to hold an extreme amount of weight. this mermaid will do minimal damage to the spider's net.
With its catch now secured the spider starts to spin her around, combing forth numerous strands of webbing that react to the saltwater on the mermaid's body. This causes the webbing to become extremely thick and sticky, allowing it to cling to her form. The spider makes quick work of her arms, binding them in place to her torso as it cocoons its helpless captive. Despite her best efforts the mermaid is quickly subdued, her one method of escape wrapped against her body.
At this point the mermaid's chance of escape has dropped significantly. The spider will continue like this until the mermaid is completely enveloped in a skin-tight, inescapable cocoon. From then it will either store away the prey alive for safe-keeping, or feed upon it, depending upon the hunger of the arachnid.
We will continue you watch, bringing you every second of the action in this once in a lifetime experience.
And here we have the Patreon poll winner for the month of Mer-May. Ariel seems to have gotten herself caught up by a VERY old concept of mine for years back. Some of you who perhaps have been with me over the last 10 years might know the picture I'm referring to. What do you all think? would you like to see a sequel to this one with Ariel completely cocooned, perhaps one or more of her sisters trying (and failing) to rescue her? Let me know if you like what you see. I was really happy with the sort of glowing cave ambiance I was able to achieve with this artwork. More to come very soon.
I also added in a gagged variant for you lovely gag snobs out there. lol. hope you enjoy.
