Where there is light, shadows lurk and fear reigns. Yet by the blade of the knights, Mankind was given hope.

For as long as there was life, evil creatures known as Horrors have preyed upon the mortals of our realm. Born into a family, who were members of the Makai Order, an order dedicated to defending the mortal plane from Horrors; Ken learned to fight soon as he could walk. Though he was left in the care of his grandfather after the birth of his younger twin siblings when his parents separated, Ken still rose up from the ranks within the Order.

You see, there are two ranks within the Makai Order: Knights and Priests/Priestesses. Makai Knights were warriors armed with weapons made up of a material known as Soul Metal, which could summon sentient armor made of the same material. Priests and Priestesses, on the other hand, were practitioners of magic and used special brushes in place of Soul Metal weapons. Both, however, were bestowed sentient tools that could detect Horrors known as Madogus that resembled ordinary, is not gothic, jewelry. To become a Knight, one needs a strong will; only then will they be able to lift Soul Metal, which was either too heavy to lift or left burns if one wasn't chosen by the armor the weapon represented. Though usually, Makai Priests and Priestesses were relegated to back up to Knights, it was possible one could be both Knight and Priest.

Being a descendant of one of the most powerful and well-known Makai Knights, Ougun Kishi (the Golden Knight) Garo; Ken was partnered with the skull ring Madougu, Zaruba. Due to many tragedies that happened in his life, Ken was unable to trust others easily, be they in the Order or not. Not only that, it made him particularly overprotective of his younger brother and sister, Bren and Jen. So much that he's hesitant when they insist on helping him.

In recent years, both his mother and father had remarried and had children before the twins out of wedlock; both of whom had become Makai Knights themselves, one being a rare female Knight!

Despite his rough exterior, there is a caring young man who just wants to protect the innocent from the evil of the Horrors.
