NEW CHARACTERS ALERT!!!!!!
Wow, I had a ton of fun designing these guys. Combining two fandom-created species into a duo for an upcoming sci-fi D&D campaign was awesome.
Well, time to get explaining:
My friend is going to be running a Sci-Fi campaign in the near future, and since the synth species by
Vader-San fits so well in a sci-fi setting, I knew I wanted to play as one (on top of them just being super cool as a species). Additionally, I have been dying to try out the new Drakewarden ranger subclass, as it will perhaps become my personal favorite build in all of D&D to play as. I already love ranger, and giving them a freaking dragon companion??!? Yes PLEASE!
So! After looking into the mechanics for the drakewarden's dragon companion, I had an idea: These mechanics work surprisingly well with Skulldragon lore!! And honestly, the skulldragon species by
CamuuShamuu is indeed a perfect fit for the dragon companion in my opinion. In short, the dragon can be summoned once a day (or more by spending a spell slot), and if it dies then you have to summon it again. Each time you summon it, you choose which element it should be (fire, ice, lightning, acid, or poison). And - considering that skulldragons are made of magic and can fully regenerate from fatal damage after 24 hours - it makes perfect sense as the companion creature! And it allows for much more of a bond between the ranger and dragon than if it were just a random expendable summon!
With all of that decided, I got down to designing these two!!
So! First up we have Zuma - The Synth Ranger! (He/Him or They/Them)
Zuma was sparked on a jungle planet and designed with scouting and exploration in mind! In the process of doing this, he became quite connected with nature and grew an appreciation for it! He loves uncovering mysteries and doing his best to solve them! Though, he isn't exactly the quiet thinking type, so that isn't his strong suit, but he loves trying nonetheless! He is well trained with his trusty arcbow! Basically Chewbacca's weapon from Star Wars.

And Zuma's trusty mount in this picture is Fuji - The Feral Skulldragon! (He/Him or They/Them)
Fuji was once just a simple giant lizard. However when foraging for food, he stumbled upon a cursed skull. Upon investigating a bit too closely, the skull attached itself to him, and transformed him into a quadrupedal skulldragon! And now, food was the only thing on his mind. However, being a poor hunter with his new chonky frame, he was not eating nearly as well as he would have liked. When he crossed paths with Zuma, the synth was immediately curious about the creature and drawn to it. Zuma offered to feed the skulldragon, and that was all it took for Fuji to take a liking to the synth and begin forging their bond.
Fuji also has some unique features for a skulldragon to better fit as a Drakewarden companion!
The first and most obvious feature is that he is quadrupedal. This is so that the ranger can still use him as a mount, as that would be very difficult with an anthro skulldragon.
Secondly, Fuji's size is actually relative to Zuma's level. He is pictured here as his medium size, about that of a (chonky) lion! This is Fuji's size while Zuma is level 7-14. While Zuma is level 3-6, Fuji is a small size class, the size of a large dog. And at level 15+, Fuji is a large creature comparable to the largest of horses.
Lastly and perhaps the biggest feature that can't be pictured is how Fuji can be summoned with one of five elemental types! These options are fire, ice, lightning, acid, and poison. Here Fuji is pictured in his fire form. The form he takes affects his wings, neon highlights (between body and underbelly), pupils, and internals (such as the glow of his maw)! For example if he was summoned in lightning form, his pupils, neon highlights, and internals would change to electric yellow, and his wings would look like yellow zappy lines following a wing bone structure!

Finally, I'd like to give a huge thank you to
Booknut for bringing these characters to life freaking wonderfully!! He took everything I gave him and just ran with it. I knew he was a great choice for this since he can draw both Zuma's athletic build as well as Fuji's chonky build well! But he still just blew me away with his vision for the two, filling in any gaps in my descriptions with details that fit even better than anything I could have come up with!! I want to let everyone know that this guy is an incredibly talented artist, and I plead all of you to commission him for pretty much anything you have on your mind!!
