I think this deserves an explanation. I feel I need to talk about my experience with Dragon Ball because this is a very rare pair (Something I find curious). Itβs going to be long so be prepared.
I know that what Iβm about to say will piss off some people so youβve been warned, also donβt come here picking up fights, Iβll just delete/hide your comment, Iβm not going to fight over it, seriously.

Here I goβ¦
Unlike many people, I didnβt watch DB or DBZ when I was a child, I meanβ¦ I did, but never paid attention to it, I think I barely watched a few episodes, if I recall correctly. The main reason? I seriously disliked the sexism and perverted characters and how those things were portrayed, it was disgusting, even as a child when I couldβve found them βfunnyβ or just not care about that at all and, to be honest, I did find the jokes very unfunny, also because most of them were about what I mentioned previously. I still dislike those things in Dragon Ball as a whole, though.
I preferred to watch Card Captor Sakura or PokΓ©mon, both were more balanced shows and had jokes that were actually funny or at least entertaining. (And yeah, I know Brock from PokΓ©mon is also a pervert, but it was portrayed differently than in DBZ where girls are often objectified)
I was already an adult when I found the Kai version airing on the TV, two characters picked up my attention immediately: 17 and 18. I resolved to watch the entire thing to see how their stories went. Luckily for me, Kai didnβt have all episodes dubbed so after Cell Saga was over it started all over again from the Saiyan Saga and I could watch the whole thing from the very beginning, or the beginning of DBZ anyway xD
Iβm actually glad I watched it as an adult, that prevented me from being blinded by nostalgy, I could see things clearly and make an opinion about the show without feeling biased.
I found out soon that DBZ was more serious than the original show and -Even though those things were still present- it didnβt have as much bad jokes and sexist stuff (Then again, it was the Kai version, they did cut some stuff that still remained in the Japanese version but that werenβt really necessary to keep, as usual) DBZ also gave us interesting stuff like character development, background stories, traveling to another planet and interesting concepts like time travel.
After watching the whole thing, I decided to see what happened to my favorite characters, 17 and 18, after Cell Saga and I found myself disappointed, not surprised but disappointed. 17 was left in oblivion, his design and personality didnβt match with the βZ Warriorβ standard so he didnβt have a chance there, Toriyama also gave him a job that didnβt go with him, it didnβt make sense, it was just a random thing Toriyama thought up to explain what he has been doing.
And then we have 18, her character completely butchered, from wild, independent, strong-willed and sassy he turned her into βKrillinβs wifeβ and thatβs it. Her personality completely disappeared after Cell Saga, it wasnβt the same character we met and it will never be after that and this is one of the worst things Toriyama has done, character-wise. Itβs hard to imagine someone like 18, who likes luxury, who knows her worth and whoβs independent ending up married with a guy that only cared about her because she was pretty and only saw her as a prize, that is also a pervert and living in a house in the middle of nowhere because they couldnβt afford having a house of their own, with another pervert whoβs also WORST than the guy and ALSO having a child with him.
18 is probably one of those characters that would be better if childless, because you know, not every woman wants to become a mom one day, and thatβs 18βs case.
Iβve read so many stuff trying to justify their relationship, like βhe saved herβ which is totally wrong, she was going to resurrect with or without him carrying her all the way to Kamiβs Lookout, just like 17 did, she didnβt owe him anything and if that was the case, then it wouldnβt make things better. βShe kissed him and must have had feelings for him from the very beginningβ Actually no, she was making fun of him since he was the only one that chickened out, she KNOWS sheβs pretty and she likes to take advantage of that, thatβs obvious. Also, βLook even the unattractive guy gets the pretty girl! Love at its finestβ Wouldnβt be 18βs case considering her personality and why Krillin liked her in first place, because she was pretty and only that, wonder if it would have happened if it was the other way around, probably not.
It wouldβve been better if she was left in oblivion, like 17.
But thatβs the kind of treatment Toriyama gives to every female character that he introduces: He just makes them useless for the plot by making them dedicated housewives that must take care of the kids while the men are out doing important βmanlyβ stuff (And no, Iβm not saying that being a housewife or taking care of kids is wrong, Iβm saying that the way Toriyama portrays female characters is sexist and denigrating so he leaves the audience, who were mostly young boys at that time, with that awful assumption) I think the only exception here would be Bulma, mostly because sheβs sort of a character relief.
----If it wasnβt clear up until this point, I wonβt post anything that has to do with K/18 unless itβs a commission since I donβt support it, already explained myself----
I also don't understand why Gero left the reproductive systems of 17 and 18 intact, the guy literally turned himself into a cyborg and tinkered with the bodies of two humans without feeling guilty about it, to the point that he made them capable of having infinite energy, so why keeping something that could be a potential distraction to fulfill their main goal that was killing Goku? I already explained the reason why Toriyama did that, but it doesnβt make sense plot-wise.
I really like 18, love her personality and design a lot and I refuse to like or even consider the 18 of Buu Saga as the same character we met previously. That is one of the many reasons I started to consider Cell Saga as the real ending of DBZ, it also parallels with what was going to be the actual ending of DBZ: the ending of Frieza Saga, so itβs just the perfect ending (Pun intended)
Iβm not really going to talk about DBS, I donβt think itβs worth mentioning.

So, about the picture, as I said 17 and 18 were the first characters I liked, after watching the show I ended up liking a few other characters, like Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Bulma and Future Trunks.
You might wonder, why oh why I like Trunksx18. First of all, this 18 isnβt the one from the Future even though it could work too if given the chance (Just look at Vegeta, once loathed by everyone for what he did, including Bulma, so Future Trunks/Future 18 is possible, needs a lot of work but itβs still possible) I see Future!Trunks/18 as a chance for both of them to develop, it would certainly take a while, especially to trust in each other, Trunks will probably think of her as a threat even though he knows she isnβt like the one he met, but she has the same face and almost the same personality (Except the sadistic part lol), but once they get to know each other it will just flow naturally. He wouldnβt just see her as a pretty girl, even though he knows sheβs pretty; they will learn about each other and It would be also a great chance to know about 18βs past, if she recalls something, which would make them even closer. It will probably help Trunks understand the reason behind the actions of 17 and 18 in his timeline.
We know 18 isnβt really a βsweetβ girl but Trunks would probably be the sweetest guy after they get along, maybe that sweetness is contagious x3
If not as a couple, I think they could have an interesting friendship ^^
Went for chibis because I always come to that conclusion when I want to draw something cute lol.
Iβve drawn 18 a lot before and Trunks just a couple of times, so it felt like the first time I drew him haha, really liked it x3
