So I didn't get around to watching Avatar until around last year, when COVID hit and I found myself with a sudden excess of free time. Avatar is a show that a lot of my friends have talked about over the years, because they watched it back when it first came out, and haven't stopped talking about it since. Due to this, I've had things spoiled (not 100% their fault, their spoilers were mainly Iroh= best uncle, etc. The more spoilery spoilers came from the internet. I decided I already know so much, might as well find out the rest.
Gotta say, it's a solid series. I enjoy a TV show that comes, tells us a story, and ends. Sure there was a couple filler episodes, but they weren't unlikable. There was a clear plot, so you kind of knew what to expect. Great characters, with even greater character development. Sokka ended up being my favorite character overall.
Despite it being a really good show, I don't think I would ever include it it my top 10 cartoons or anything like that. I think spoilers are to blame for it. Knowing that Zuko switched sides at some point was the big one. My favorite characters tend to be the reformed villains, but knowing that it will happen takes the fun out of it. Plus. I knew that Aang would always win, especially towards the end. There was no real "risk" because at the end of the day, it's a kids show, where everyone (sorry Jet, but no one liked you) makes it to the end.
Anyways, tie for best girl is probably between Ty Lee/Suki, although at some point, I would like to TF most of the main female cast. I chose Ty Lee over Suki, because I've had a Ty Lee --> Monkey TF in mind for awhile after seeing this. I image either she's a victim of DNA bending (should be canon) or Azula's peer pressuring her into helping her again.
No I haven't watched Legend of Korra, nor to I really plan too. I don't enjoy time skips that much, and seeing everyone old/dead is not appealing.
