Frost was worried about being called into the higher up's office. His department was on the third floor, so this was the first time taking the elevator that high. He thought back and remembered once they did hold an office party on the fifth, and that required everyone to RSVP just to get access. Now he was on the elevator, his wolf tail twitching nervously, as the numbers just kept counting up, and up and uuuup. He didn't know the number he just told the elevator operator he was going to the top, he was going to Duncan's office.
Everyone always just called him the Big Boss, or the guy up there and just pointed upwards. Since Frost had joined the company a few months ago, the big boss had always been away on business, though he had heard about him making some big moves in neighboring cities. The only other details he could ever get out of people was just he was a lot to take in, a pretty big deal, someone else always chiming in saying a truly huge one, but saying its best to experience him in person.
The floor was getting past the 60s now, Frost making sure to breathe and feeling his ears pop, this office must be high up, wondering if helicopters can even get this high. He assumed the boss would be arriving that way, since no one had mentioned seeing him yet. Finally at floor 88, the elevator stopped.
Frost walked out, seeing there was just a tiny room with a single desk, but a pair of giant doors behind it. He walked up to the first desk, assuming it was the secretary he should check in with, but it seemed vacant at the moment. He stood there and checked his phone, making sure it was the right time, but then suddenly he heard a small voice. Looking down he saw a tiny raccoon, barely the size of a pencil.
The small figure spoke, in a surprisingly masculine voice, just at a lower volume, “Hey there, Frost right? I am Quinn, The boss told me about his appointment with you today.”
That just made the poor wolf even more nervous, still having no idea of the nature of this meeting. He did squeak out a response, “Yes...Erm yes, I wanted to make a good impression. Meeting him for the first time and all.” The wolf fidgeted with his clothes, making sure his fur was well maintained as well.
The very small raccoon chuckled, “You don't have to worry about the small details with him, just speak loud and clear, and make sure you do everything he says.”
Right as that clear and slightly threatening instruction came through, the ground rumbled. Frost wondered how they could be feeling it this high up, and it seemed to becoming in waves, and getting stronger. After the third rumble, it finally stopped, Frost still clinging to the desk to get his balance.
Before he could ask the raccoon if he was okay, there was a dinging noise from the door, Quinn looking up, “The big boss will see you now.”
Frost took a deep breath, and tried his best to be confident walking to those doors. Though his ego deflated fast as he realized how heavy they were, needing both hands to tug one of the doors open, wondering how the raccoon got through when he needed to deliver messages. Still he made it through and made sure to shut the door behind him.
In the office was a very wide desk with a massive chair facing away from the entry way. Behind that was a very massive window, which almost took up the entire wall. Frost just assumed the boss was checking something outside the window, and spoke up, “Duncan Sir, I am here, erm I am Frost, its a pleasure to meet you” There was no response, so the curious wolf walked closer, trying to make sure he was not interrupting anything.
Once he was close enough to the chair, he spun it around, and found it empty. “Huh? But where is...”
Suddenly there was another rumble, and outside the window a massive amount of Green fur was rising up the window, the poor wolf having no idea what he was seeing, until he was met by a large pair of eyes, a set looking directly at him.
Frost rushed to the window to figure out what it was, slowly putting the pieces together as it was hard to take in all at once. He was looking at the massive head of a green kangaroo, which was then attached to the massive body of a green kangaroo, with a long green kangaroo tail that snaked down a few city blocks. He double checked how high up they were, the cars on the ground seeming like little ants, driving around the massive feet taking up a few lanes. He looked back up and noticed the giant's posture, seeming to lean down to get a look at the tiny visitor in his office. This monster was bigger than their entire building.
Suddenly a booming voice came from the creature, but instead of roars, it was curious and inquisitive. “Ah yes, Frost? What do you think of my office? As you can see I am a bit too big for it, but the board of directors say I have to have one. Take a seat and make yourself welcome, we have much to discuss.”
Frost reached back and luckily found an armrest, and his butt soon collapsed into a chair, his mind still spinning as he realized, this was his boss, the big guy, the massive behemoth. Duncan was truly how everyone described, maybe needing even more adjectives for massive next to his name. The biggest deal, the highest up, and the one with something he needed to discuss.
Duncan placed a massive paw onto a nearby building and started to lean upon it, trying to make the conversation appear more casual. Frost remarked under his breath how the buildings around here must be made out of tough stuff, or the roo just was being gentle. The giant's smirk made it seem like he was always in complete control, which was good for all those on the road below.
He looked back in through the window, and started speaking once again, "Some whispers have reached my ear, they say you are working on some size altering tech in the R&D department, is that correct?" The Roo crossed his arms and closed his eyes a moment, "We have yet to produce consistent results in that field, despite the high demand, and the high number of attempts."
Frost thought about asking if the Roo's massive size was the result of one of those attempts, but the focus was on the now. "Yes…Yes Sir! I was looking through some of the blueprint archives, and found a design that seemed to…"
The wolf was cut off by another large rumble, Duncan tapping the ground in slight impatience as he shook his head, "Discovery stories are great for the PR Birds to Tweet about, but what we need are some results. I am gonna need a demo, and I need it yesterday."
Frost's eyes went wide, his managers had not made any deadline previously; being the big boss must come with big expectation. "I…can finish what I am working on, make it look good, and have you something by the end of the w…."
He once again was cut off, this time by an even larger rumble and firmer voice, "Well crafted presentations are great for the Investor Hyenas to tear apart, but I need to know what we got before I can even lure them to a feeding pit. Our meeting was planned for now, because you are gonna show you what you have, Now."
The door to the office swung open, a cart being wheeled in by an almost unseen force. It took Frost a moment to see the small raccoon behind it, pushing the materials into the room.
Frost was starting to breathe a little heavy, adjusting his collar, "My…mobile lab cart yes, I had been running some stability…erm I mean it should be ready now."
The cart had a laptop on it, with 2 wires connected to a device like a television remote. Beside both of those was a cage with a single white mouse in it, a label on the front showing his name to be Squeaks.
Frost sighed and whispered down to the little delivery coon, "Couldn't you have picked up any of my other test mice? Squeaks is a little…excitable."
Duncan had noticed the seeming silence, and was peering in a bit closer to to the office window, "Is there any problem in there? Are we gonna have to reschedule, can't handle the pressure?"
The wolf shook his head quickly, so fast it shook his head fur. After a deep breath he gathered the courage to speak back up, "No, just was checking the batteries, but it appears we are all set."
Frost bit his lip, disconnecting the cords from the device. They were not needed to function, but he would not be able to track the debug data in any unexpected scenarios. He brushed down his fur, held up the device, and began his presentation voice.
"The size swapper remote, well it allows you to do just that, swap sizes between two living things. The design only has two buttons, one for setting up the swap, and a one to revert it. So easy, any one could use it."
Frost saw the boss leaning in more, knowing the presentation had grabbed his attention. He pointed the device to the mouse and prepared to hit the swap button, "I will now swap sizes with my lab mouse. I have the device programmed to swap locations as well, as after reading stories of buildings unable to contain growing test subjects… Well, its best the big things stay in big places, and the small ones stay in small. It will put me in his cage, and he will be out here standing before you."
Frost slowly lowered his finger to the button, praying it all worked okay, but suddenly there was a loud instruction, "Wait~"
The wolf looked to the window once more, his paws shaking a little, listening as further instruction came from the head honcho, "If the device is so easy to use, why not let the mouse do the swap. A big complaint from our investors is difficulty of use with our products. If I can say ‘Even a dumb little mouse can do it’, it will score us big points."
There was a squeak of protest from the mouse in the cage, smart enough to know when he was being teased.
Frost looked down at the cage as well, "Sir that might not be a good idea, you see he is very...he could...well I guess its okay, if he messes is up I can take things back over."
The remote was carefully placed in the cage, along with a whisper, "Just point and click."
Squeaks held the massive remote up to him. To a human it fit easily in a hand, but to a mouse he needed both paws and plenty of body weight to keep the thing balanced. He saw his scientist wolf friend, the curious racoon that was just a little taller than him, and the massive amount of green just outside the window.
Maybe it was a devilish little plan, maybe it was dumb luck, but the reality was that the remote started to lean in the direction of the window, pointed squarely at the green giant, and before anyone could stop it, a special button was touched.
"Squeaks no!" Frost shouted out, but it was too late. In a blinding flash the two had been linked, the two were paired, the two had swapped.
As the occupants of the room cleared their eyes, a tiny green blur was slowly coming into focus. Frost thought at first he was looking out the window once again, but the details slowly became clear, still pointed in the direction of the mouse cage. Inside its tiny iron bars, was a very small plush sized Green Roo.
"What did you do!" The small figure tried to announce in his sternest voice, but instead it came out sounding lighter than a chipmunk.
Quinn quickly rushed over to the cage door and unlocked it for his little manager. The big boss was now smaller than his tiny secretary, the two comparing sizes as he tumbled out of the cage and onto the large raccoon feet. The previously green behemoth now barely came up to his waist, and was barely a runt compared to the wolf that now towered over him.
"Change me back now," The green chipmunk themed kangaroo demanded, "or its your department that will get downsized next."
Frost's tail shot up at the threat, as minor as the voice it came from, he knew it would be serious. "Of course sir" He responded, looking at the remote, "I just need to press the revert button and make sure the two participants are visible."
Frost's eyes finally turned to the window, expecting to see a bright white fuzz filling the vision, but there was nothing. Looking out, there was just the clear sky above, and some giant rat shaped footprints below, and their path lead away from the building.
"Oh that's not good..."
A loud and high pitched voice echoed across the room, "What is not good? Also, shouldn't this button have fixed us by now?"
Frost turned around, seeing the tiny roo hoping on the remote, hitting the revert button over and over again.
The wolf rushed over, quickly grabbing the remote from under the long green feet; the minuscule roo tossed aside and falling forward onto his arms, tail sticking up.
Frost inspected the device, it feeling very warm, "Sir, please, it only works if both participants are visible, but it still uses up a ton of power to check, It might overheat!" He ended the expatiation by moving the remote to his shirt pocket, feeling the warmth in his chest.
Duncan rested on the table, crossing his arms with his face near the floor, "Well go get him, and I will be waiting here."
Frost considered the option, but quickly shook his head, "No, it would be better if we went to him. And before he causes any damage as well!"
The nervous employee brought down a big blue paw to lift up the roo, but with him so low to the ground, it was easiest to just grab his tail. His boss squirmed at being raised off the ground, suddenly lifted a few inches, though the distance seemed much further. The little pipsqueak huffed, "Hey, you did not get authorization to tail dangle your Boss!"
"Sorry," The wolf apologized as he stuffed the roo into his shirt, as he often did with his mice, "This is the fastest way, and we need to move fast."
The tightness of his shirt, the fluff of his chest, and one arm draped across gave the tiny roo a place to sit. He still was not very happy, Frost feeling green feet constantly try to push against the arm and green paws struggling against his shirt collar.
The panicked wolf waved a goodbye to Quinn, pressing the button for an elevator and one quickly arriving. As he climbed inside, his silver and blue body tensed as the small room started to descend, feeling almost like a theme park ride. The tightening of his muscles was felt by his prisoner as well, the little area in the shirt getting smaller as muscles were flexed.
The green little roo managed to talk by sticking his head of the collar, "Hey! Don't forget I’m in here. Although, I am gonna duck in once we get back to the ground floor. Seeing me this small is bad for company morale." The pair both knew it was probably more about his own embarrassment than anything else, but share a small nod of agreement.
As the falling box dinged, Duncan ducked into his cloth prison, though as the doors opened there was no one waiting on the other side. Frost stepped out and took a moment to gather his bearings, the blood in his body no longer rushing from the decent.
A firm feline voice called out to him, "The trip down is really a doozy isn't it?"
The wolf shot up quickly, looking over to who was talking. He remembered the guy at the front desk who had sent him to the top today. A light brown and striped cat in a security outfit, sitting behind a large control booth that controlled the elevator and had some nearby cameras as well. A simple name-tag showed the name 'Hash'.
Frost took a deep breath to speak, squishing his companion once again as his chest expanded, "Yeah, my ears just finished popping as well. Thanks for checking." He walked over to the desk, getting an idea, "Say, with those cameras of yours, you haven't seen any giant mice outside have you?"
Hash twisted an ear in the wolf’s direction curiously, "Well I thought I saw some big feet walking by our east entrance. They were not green enough to be the boss, I know those toes anywhere, after that last pedicure he asked me for."
The wolf felt his tiny roo captive flexing his toes against the chest he rested upon, clearly remembering that tender loving care as well. Not wanting to get more details, Frost responded with a, "Thanks." He looked to the doors, but realized none of them were labeled, nor did he have a compass on him. "Erm, which one is east?"
Hash let out some laughter with a bit of Nya behind each chuckle, "Don't worry, just follow me." He got up from his desk and walked to the left of it, past the elevators again, and to a pair of double doors, "Right out this way should be what you need. Your payment for my directions however, is a big hug."
The wolf knew it would be too rude to refuse, though his little companion was going to be forced between a wolf and a cat place. He tried to start the hug being friendly and keeping his distance, but soon the cat has his arms around him as well, and tugged him in close and tight. There was a loud squeak as the roo was crushed between wolf and cat pecs, though somehow the cat refused to notice it.
After the hug lingered and both operators had squirmed a little, the wolf was finally let go. Hash let out a meow as he gave his last remark, "Good luck to you wolf, and don't tease the boss too bad, unless you can get away with it." He stuck out his tongue and ran back to his post.
Before the pair could figure out how much he knew, they felt a rumbling down the block, and rushed towards it. As they headed to the street level, it was still the morning so the sidewalks were not too busy. The residents did not seem worried from all the rumbling, they must have been used to Duncan's large antics, and merely went about their day.
Frost looked along the buildings for any more hints, speaking out when he saw a specific billboard, "I think I know where he is!" He remembered his everyday walk to work, and just two blocks down from their building, was a mouse's biggest weakness. A dairy factory, specifically one called 'BIG CHEZ'.
The roo stuck his head out for just a moment, "Well get moving, my legs would take far too long to get there, so you are my chauffeur for the day"
The wolf snorted at the title, but still picked up the pace. He has the fitness of a wolf, but the nausea from the elevator and having to carry the boss carefully was slowing him down. It took him another few minutes before he was turning the corner to the factory, though now there was a great amount of white fluff between him and the building. Squeaks was there, leaned over to try and reach inside, they had found him.
Frost went to reach for the remote, but felt it was still a little warm, "Lets, get a little closer, just so the remote has to work less. He should not notice us with how small we are."
Duncan tried to protest, reaching out of the collar for the remote, but he was also worried about spilling out of the shirt, so he sat back into it. "Fine, just hurry!"
The wolf moved slowly, walking along the sidewalk near the squirming mouse. Soon he was along his midsection, just between giant head, and massive rear. He pulled out the remote first, holding it in one hand, and reached into his shirt, once again grabbing Duncan by the tail, it just easiest to hold him that way with one hand at this size.
Frost’s focus was stolen away by the tiny squirming boss, still not sure how much trouble the big mouse’s actions had got him in. The thought of a giant yelling at him was enough to make him shiver, taking a slow gulp and closing his eyes. That peace did not last long though, as suddenly a squeaky voice called to him.
"Frost look out!"
The wolf was not fast enough, as a massive mouse hand come down and reached for him. He tried to move, but the giant mitts grabbed his tail, and started lifting him off the ground. The sudden elevation made him drop the remote, but his grip on the little roo's tail was tight enough the pair were lifted up into the air, both of them tail dangled in a chain.
Squeaks was now leaning on his other hand, laying on his side, looking down at his tiny captive. With his focus on the wolf, both were unsure if he even saw the little green one dangling as well. He definitely recognized his small blue painted wolf, and seemed to be enjoying being the bigger mouse. Frost just gave him a nervous smile looking up to his test subject’s face that was now multiple stories tall.
The silence was broken by a tiny squeaking voice, "Frost, I am directly over the remote, just reach a little further and I can get it."
The wolf was afraid to look down and pull the mouse's attention that way, so he just kept reaching as the roo dangled mere inches over the button. Still, every time he leaned forward with his hand, the mouse raised him up higher and higher.
Frost woofed in annoyance, "He is just toying with us, what do we do?"
Duncan face palmed, having sudden inspiration, "Um Frost, why don't you just let me go?"
The wolf looked down, realizing how close he was, it was not much of a drop at all, "Oh...sorry" Still he lingered one more moment, wondering which of the two might it might be worse having massive. Still, he did promise to help, and finally let the roo go.
The tiny skydiver tumbled face first onto the button, his legs and tail falling over the side of it. It seemed to get warm, and start to do something, but then sparks started shooting out, the antenna at the top falling off.
Duncan called up, "Is it...meant to do that?"
Before Frost could respond, the large mouse let out quite a few deep Squeaks of laughter, catching onto their little plan and its downfall. He set down the little wolf, and resumed his attack on the factory, reaching into a series of broken windows for the prize inside.
Frost brushed his fur back into place, then looked down at the little roo and his sparking remote, "I told you about overheating, and I am going need my work machine and a few hours to fix...lookout!"
The wolf saw a massive mouse hip and foot coming their way as the giant seemed momentarily unaware of those around them. Frost moved as fast as he could, quickly scooping up the roo and running a few feet away, just as the paw came to the ground.
Duncan got a little turned around at the sudden scoopage, regaining his bearings on the ground a few feet away. Once the foot and leg it was attached to moved away again, he saw the little crater it left, and breathed a high pitched sigh of relief, "That was close, though...where is the remote?"
The pair looked over the crater, and saw a flattened piece of metal with wires sticking out, barely recognizable as their remote.
Frost remarked almost with a laugh, "Okay..that's gonna take more than a few hours."
Duncan was about to lose his cool, but took a deep breath, pretended to adjust his tie, and looked up at the wolf. Very calmly…he squeaked up to his employee "Solve this in the next ten minutes or you are fired!"
It was Frost's turn to lose his cool, pacing around the foot crater in a panic, "Uh uh um, I uh...." He wracked his brain, wishing he had made a backup, or had someone else working on the project. That gave him an idea though, "Wait, I based my blueprints off someone else's design, maybe we can get the swap technology working on their device instead."
It was a long shot, but the Roo was ready to try almost anything, "Fine, whats his name, is he in your department? The clock is ticking"
Frost shook his head, "I do not know where he works, he just signed all his blueprints KK, with a little Nintendo remote drawn next to it. Does that mean anything to you?”
Frost assumed it would be a dead end, but the Roo's eyes went wide, "Oh no, not him, anything but him."
A new voice with a light tenor tone called out from behind the pair, "Ohhhh yes him."
Frost spun around and saw an orange fox wearing a NES controller like a necklace, a jacket with a blue fire pattern, a white undershirt, brown pants with many pockets, and a Red NES zapper sticking out of one of them. He walked forward with a confident strut, his fluffy tail swaying behind him in turn. Frost wondered where he came from, before noticing the bus behind the fox, driven by a small and familiar racoon on a modified high chair, who saluted the pair of them as he drove off.
The smug fox walked up to his equal, and his tiny green less than, "I got word you two might need the top scientist in the building?"
Duncan hoped over to the fox, though stood barely taller than one of his dark brown foot paws, "Ex top scientist after the last thing you pulled." He looked up to the silver wolf behind him, "Remember when the universe was all foxes for a week? That was all this guy."
Frost vaguely recalled the world seeming more orange and fluffy a month or two ago, but just assumed it had been the heat from summer playing tricks.
Still, Frost's voice remained hopeful, "Well if he can help us, we don't have many other options."
The tiny roo still seemed huffy, leaning against a nearby fire hydrant, "Well when you two blow up the world, it is coming out of both your salaries."
The wolf and fox teamed up quickly, uploading the blueprints and code from his phone to his zapper. The fox had tons of questions and critiques about his design, "Where is the cheat code applier… How do you get around the quantum need for arcade tokens… Ohh here’s the problem, you forgot to apply recursively infinite extra lives..."
The wolf did his best to keep up with the scientist's shorthand, at least that is what he assumed those phrases meant, and knew there was no time to break out the blackboard to compare notes. The upload process finished after three nail biting minutes, and a readout on the zapper said the code was 95% compatible.
Kit nodded, "Well that's as close as we are gonna get, lets start with a lower risk experiment!" The wolf nodded and agreed looking around for something to use. But without warning he felt himself and the tiny roo zapped, Frost suddenly leaning against a fire hydrant that was four times as tall as he was. Not far away there were two giants looming over him, and a wall of white behind them.
Kit blew the smoke off the tip of his zapper, "See, 95% of the time, works every time.” He spun the zapper around by its cord, making Frost a little nervous but assumed he knew was he was doing as focus turned to his green companion “Good to see you up here little boss."
Duncan stood next to him, tapping his foot hard. The two almost seeming the same height, though the roo’s longer ears helped him cheat. "I'm still taller than you by two inches you know..."
Kit just grinned, "Well lets test the revert function..." And in another quick zap, Frost stood next to the fox again, and the green roo returned to being outclassed by a fire hydrant.
The smug fox walked over to his little companion, "What was that about you being taller than me?" His walking continued, until his feet paws were mere inches away from the roo.
"Come on!" He squeaked out, "Let's talk about this!!"
Frost chuckled, he could tell these two had a long history, and was happy his work could give them something fun. He waited just one minute to speak up, only having two minutes left on his deadline, "As cute as this is, we need to get going on the big guy."
The wolf pointed up at the mouse who was happily eating some nacho cheese off his fingers, having clearly found a storage tank in the building.
Kit rubbed his hands together, "Well alright, I will be the noble sacrifice for the next test."
Frost should have been used to his quick zapping nature, but still found it a surprise when squeaks suddenly stood next to him still happily licking his fingers. Turning his head slightly he saw there was now an orange and massive fox leaning over them all, holding a zapper the size of a limo.
The fox let up a deep voiced chuckle, "Man it is nice up here, why don't you invite me up for brunch more often big guy?” He did one foot tap, though seeing everyone almost trip, tried to be a little more careful. “If I was the boss, brunches with foxes would be mandatory." Frost gulped a second, thinking the power would go to his head, "But I could never handle the boring meetings, so tiny Duncan, I am cursing you with the task of being giant once again, woe is me for giving you such a fate."
The giant orange trickster first sent squeaks back to regular size, Duncan now standing nearly the same size as his chauffeur wolf. He let out a small laugh, "It wasn't so bad hanging with you, but never do that again, and don't tell anyone I said that."
The roo kept up his tough persona, but Frost ran up and gave him a hug, adding quietly, "Don't worry, the secret is safe with me."
The hug lasted a while, until Frost realized he was now hugging a fox instead, the two had switched, and all heights were as they should be. "Oh sorry about that" The pair pulled away, though the wolf noticed one last oddity, "Um Kit, where did your shirt go?"
The Fox quickly crossed his arms to cover his chest, and the pair looked up past the giant green toes to the roo that smugly looked down upon them. He now sported a blue flame jacket, white shirt, and NES controller necklace, though at a much bigger size.
"Oh No" The behemoth called out in a sarcastic tone, "Its me, the dumb science fox, and I've been turned into an amazing giant roo. How will I handle all the awesome size, awesome tail, and awesome green fur?"
Kit huffed and almost yipped out, "Okay Duncan, you made your point. Now give me back my shirt. You’re stretching it out."
The green roo grinned and took off the blazer, sending it to the ground below. The material fell slowly, almost like a parachute, until it hit the ground and covered the two canines, apparently much bigger than it looked. Each of them found an armhole to climb through and popped out at the same time.
Kit spoke up still hiding his naked torso under the blazer, "Okay, lets fix this little wardrobe malfunction then we can all go home. Where is my zapper?"
Duncan started twisting his tail, pushing something massive and red their way, "I found it behind me, good luck finding a setting to fix all that tiny science guys." The zapper was still at a giant size, maybe even a little bigger, the amount of pressure to even the pull the trigger was gonna be a challenge.
The giant roo tipped an imaginary hat to them "I am sure you smarties will figure something out, but for me its lunchtime happy hour at Marcos, and Mac owes me an appetizer. See you around."
With a massive rumble the Roo hopped away, Frost scooped up his small mouse friend and looked over to kit. "Did you need any help?"
Kit pulled two screwdrivers from two different pants pockets, and started walking up to the zapper, "This is not the first time I have had to work with this thing at this size, though last time I had a shirt...But I can handle it. Catch you around, and next time demo your project to me first, we will see what we can make."
With that the fox jumped through a gap in the plastic, and the sound of heavy construction started coming from inside. Frost decided not to question it and started heading back with mouse in tow, the short two block walk was much easier without dealing with a panicking little roo. He jumped briefly at a beeping noise, before realizing it was just his watch, signaling all this mischief had happened before his lunch break at noon.
"You know squeaks," He mused gently, "I really think I am liking this job..."
