There's a Spongebob joke in this Rampage story... See if you can spot it.
The afternoon was hot (as usual in the midst of summer) in Nevada. Near Boulder City, along route 93, a Scumlabs facility had been constructed and established just a few months prior. Being the corrupt transnational corporation they are, they seek great wealth through scientific renovation, and fairly often... Such things don't always turn out as well as they'd hope. The building was square and white, a bland exterior with a sign above the glass-doored entrance which reads -SCUMLABS TESTING FACILITY- in bold lettering.
The parking lot was half-full of vehicles with basically just desert and mountains all around. Occasionally (some) patches of greenery can be seen, but not particularly much. A bleeping alarm rings noisily inside the building, a crowd of people in lab coats begin pouring out the entrance like a pack of wild animals. “Run for your life!” “Forget the donuts!” “My leg!” Shout various employees, fear sunk deeply into their hearts as they scatter across the lot. Suddenly, the establishment bursts into a glorious rain of debris, pieces frolicking along the tarmac in broken masses of miscellaneous objects.
A quarter of the escapees drive onto the main road, some crashing into oncoming traffic, the rest managing to flee. Everyone else scrambles for their lives without even glancing at their vehicles, too afraid while the rest simply forgot their keys among the commotion. “ARHWOOO...!” Howls a massive beast, rising ominously among the smoky wreckage that was once a laboratory. A giant half-raised footsteps onto the lot, a creamy-peach color with long sharp nails, its hands just as naked - its furry blue physique is muscular and powerful, a long fuzzy tail nearly the size of a bus sways at its rear.
Smirking a mirthful grin, the creatures bare face shows off its fangs as its whiskers flutter in the wind. Dubious black eyes engage a lone scientist. “Ralph,” Dr. Drew shouts, a shadow creeping over him. “I'm sorry I turned you into a monster wolf, I just-I didn't think the DNA transfer would have such a profound effect!” Adjusting his circular glasses, he gets raised by the tail of his coat. “Forgive me, man, I know you're still in there, somewhere...” As he says so, Ralph opens his maw, salivating.
In a single fling, he tosses the man down his throat and gulps him like a french fry. Soon after, he goes for a run down the road... The Hoover Dam was beautiful, structured like a half-bowl within the canyon of The Colorado River. The area, once flooded with tourists, is now buzzing with military personnel, all armed and ready for anything, yet, skeptical about the reports they've been getting in about an 'estimated twenty-five-foot rampaging monster'. Though hard to believe, that didn't make them any less worried.
A tank, an attack chopper, and a mess of soldiers. Suddenly, they see it. An anthropomorphic wolf-giant charging down the road, thrashing vehicles aside like toys. Machine gun fire patters his six-pack like pellets, but no effect. Vaulting over a cement barricade in one mighty leap, his tail sweeps away a dozen soldiers in a single whoosh, and then-BANG! A reddish-orange flash of brilliance explodes across his shoulder, staggering him dramatically. The tank at the other end of the road took its shot, currently reloading another.
In his moment of frustration, Ralph clumsily trips on his own feet and flails over the railing, hurdling down the sloped wall. Falling almost helplessly, his clawed fingers dig into the concrete, harshly scraping halfway down the dam. Flexing his muscular arms, he begins climbing back up, cracking the wall one grip at a time as his tail waggles. Pat, pat, pat, pat, pat! Machine gun fire sprays across his tufts of hair, the attack chopper blasting away. Irritated, Ralph throws back his left fist and busts off the tail of the 'copter, sending it spinning in an unpredictable manner.
Satisfied, he turns his face back to the wall, then-KABOOM! The bird explodes into the back of his head, plunging his muzzle like a rocket into the wall. The wolf struggles desperately to unhitch his mouth from steel wires restraining his fangs. On the exterior, he spreads his limbs apart like an X, distantly gripping cement fissures. Promptly, his pointy ears perk up to a peculiar sound - like an egg cracking. Meanwhile, a white parachute flutters open further down the chasm.
It's the pilot, he survived the attack, guiding himself toward a rescue dinghy. Suddenly, the creature realizes that what's breaking is at the edge of his snout... ...sssSSSHPFFFFF! The damaged wall at the other end ruptures, spouting into his locked-open maw as his tongue swishes like an oar in a hydro blast. Whimpering, the wide-eyed beast swallows gratuitous amounts of water. Uncontrollably, his feet pathetically scratch away from the concrete, whole-body pointing straight-out like an arrow as his arms remain outspread on the dam.
The soldiers happily looked over the rail, watching Ralph inhale the Colorado River. His midsection begins to tank, six-pack vanishing from the immense weight-gain while his abdomen bloats like a bubble - his pregnant-looking body twists around in a circular motion like an air-dancer outside a store. “Ulp, ulp, ulp!” Panicking, the whirling tension in his ever-churning belly gently dwindles away his flexibility, half of his enormous orb transferring to his back. From the perspective of the men in the dinghy, all they see is a trembling balloon expanding into the gorge, the creatures gyrating posterior remains as muscle-toned and thin as ever while everything in the middle balloons in a now-stationary manner.
Stretch marks begin lining beneath Ralph's mildly spacing fur, noisy twangs can be heard beyond the reciting pulsations of the slosh. POP! His navel blisters out, echoing like a cork shot from a bottle. The gargantuan wolves arms still lay flat against the wall, his stomach's too huge and round to allow space to adjust his elbows for even a decent nudge of freedom. He's distended a greater size than any blimp, nearly filling half the space the area can provide. Moaning a hoarse plea, his legs stiffen and quiver against the still-tightening mass as his toes curl inward and tail rises from the pain - the beasts full-moon aimed directly at the dinghy.
“Nice...” Mutters the pilot, sarcastically. Redness blotches around Ralph's outie as his face does the same, the strain of thinning flesh becoming much too great to hold back. Any second now, he could blow... The boat speeds off down the river, Ralph's become far too unstable for them to stick around any longer. “Mph...! Mph...!” He moans, eyes twirling as they begin to accentuate from their sockets. In a brief pause, there's a loud tearing sound - slowly bursting at the seams.
“MMMPH...!” As his aching jaw supports the transfer of the final gulp, and his Adams-apple fluctuates one last time, Ralph's trembling body erupts like the explosive crack of thunder and lightning. Water tidal waves across The Hoover Dam and floods the area as the wolves body disperses in all directions, soldiers cling to the railing for dear life. After the gigantic wall of liquid rolled through, it rained for a little while. Once the event had finished, all they had left to do was figure out how they were going to seal the dam... THE END
