A whole year later, and we now finally get to see Dana's team! :P This took a while, and it also involved creating some new characters with Derry's help. Dana is of course new to the hyperfertile world, and the office space is also likely to have unique situations for her as well. That becomes increasingly apparent as she encounters her three colleagues and manager. I will post their reference image eventually, but this introduction is more important to getting the ball (and rounds) rolling for Dana. Maybe 2021 will be a bigger year for her and her team! I'm curious what Dana should encounter in an office space where fertility and virility are out of bounds...thoughts? >:3
So allow me to introduce: Ebra the Great Pyrenees, Mabel the Boar, Wendy the Hamster, and Edgar the mink-badger. But let's see how they are introduced to Dana!
---
Dana was getting anxious again. She was not even “on the job” yet and was wondering what she had gotten herself into. Having a new job was much more appreciated than being unemployed and directionless, and now she was living with one of her best friends, to boot. She was not sold on the city, yet, but everyone she met so far seemed particularly jovial, if not at least helpful. And yet, there was something about the women she met working at Much Love Corporation that kept her from becoming entirely relaxed and confident. She remembered Dr. Yasmin and her ill-fitting lab coat handing her a bottle of what Dana could only describe as overcompensatory fertility pills, and while Aura was a charming panda to find on the way to her new job, she was also exceptionally rotound with more panda cubs than she’d ever seen in one place, in utero or not.
There was an air to it all that was altogether disconcerting to her, but like with all new chapters in an adventure, there’s always a conflict and uncertainty that roils up in the background. The possibility of what could happen made her feel anxious yet inspired to trek onward. All she had to do was get to Section B on the 4th Floor of the Coyn Building of Much Love Foundation, and her new chapter would truly start.
Turning the corner, the young, well-dressed otter found herself in a small lobby with a desk seated at the wall opposite her. The desk was occupied by a lithe tigress who was equally occupied by her work. She stared at the monitor beside her, and she spoke to a headset while also holding a corded phone to the other side of her head with a twisted shoulder. Her short glasses reflected some of the monitor’s light back to the otter who slowly approached. The tigress had a short tuft of black hair, and she had a butterfly necklace run across her generally appropriate work outfit. The tigress glanced to her left to see Dana and immediately stood up, and Dana was for once surprised that she was -not- rounded with children. Perhaps she had been overthinking the whole situation, after all.
“Goodmorningmaamdoyouhaveanappointment?” The tigress spoke with a hasty, squeaky tone.
“Uh-”
“Areoyouaclientlookingforhelp?”
“No, I'm just-”
“Onesecondplease. ‘Miss, I understand you want to speak with the CMRA manager, but she is unavailable at this time. I can leave a…’” the tigress flipped back and forth between multiple demeanors in such short notice. Dana felt a whiplash of energy from the other side of the desk.
“...I am Dana, the new employee for Customer Manage-”
The tiger lifted a finger at Dana, her eyes staring intensely at the otter.
“...Okay...yes…okay...mmhmm...I understand…noted. Okay, Miss Thornbun, I-I will tell her to call you as soon as possible. Okay...thank you.”
With the poise of a collapsing rag-doll, the tigress threw the headset toward the monitor and the handset to its home, and her body slumped on her chair.
“Uuugghhh, that woman…” she lamented and stared into the ceiling as if calling to a higher power to deal with the problem instead. Her prayer session ended quickly before she stood back up and rubbed the side of her face. “I’m sorry about that...Dana, was it?”
“Oh...yes! Yes, I’m Dana, the new employee for Customer Management, Research and Analysis?”
“CMRA got a newbie? Great! I’m Darcie. I started a couple months ago, myself. Sounds like a little hiring spree happening as of late. Nice to meet you...I’ll let Ebra know you’re here. Please have a seat.”
The tigress stood up from her slumped position and gestured to one of the chairs, which Dana had only just realized were more like loveseats in size. Taking little note of that observation, the otter took a seat while the tigress moved swiftly out into the office space proper, adjusting her skirt as she did.
Dana sat tentatively in one of the sizable chairs, lightly tapping her feet on the carpeted floor. It felt particularly soft for a work carpet, cushioned and nearly therapeutic, as was the chair on which she sat. Whoever did the interior design for the office placed comfort high on the priority list. Other than the somewhat exasperated tigress at the front desk, the office appeared somewhat inactive. She heard some talking in the distance, but it was obscured enough by the cubicle walls to be uninterpretable. It was likely boring work chatter, anyways.
Then she heard someone clear as day walking into the lobby.
“Good Morning, Miss Summers!”
Just as Dana looked toward the sound, she caught sight of the source and immediately realized that the ceiling was higher than expected for a reason. Out into view walked a Great Pyrnees sporting a light blue blouse and sports jacket. The white-furred dog adjusted her glasses and looked down at Dana, though that was only in the literal sense. Even as Dana stood up, she only reached partway up the Great Pyrnees’s chest, which was rather gifted even for the dog’s notable height. The dog’s tail wagged slowly behind her as she offered a paw.
“Oh, yes, thank you,” Dana responded, shaking the paw proudly. “Good Morning!”
“It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Ebra Wallace, the manager for CMRA. I heard great things about you, and from the interview, I think you will be a great fit,”
“Well, hehe, gee, thanks again!” she giggled. “I hope so, too! This has been a very new experience for me,”
“No worries there. Everyone is new when they start. The dynamic of Much Love Corporation is...unique to say the least. But because of how much the company has been growing, there is always some leeway for us to work things out and adjust. Even discounting that, we are a welcome bunch, so you should be able to transition well into the MLC work and lifestyle,”
“Lifestyle?” Dana squeaked curiously, but by then, Ebra had already turned around to return to the office space.
“Come, let’s introduce you to the rest of the team! You caught us as we were having our morning meetup.”
Dana had been so focused on the towering height of her new boss, that she failed to notice that her sizable assets were resting on what appeared to be a noticeably-protruding middle until she turned around. Ebra was not nearly as full of offspring as the previous coworkers were, but given the size of Aura and Yasmin, Dana had a suspicion her manager was not exactly far along. She got another sight of her boss’s middle as she turned to a mewling Darcie.
“Darcie, I’ll call Miss Thornbun after this,”
“Please do. She needs some reassurance, and I’m sure another call like that will give me a panic attack,”
Ebra smirked and nodded, “Okay. Did Mabel talk to you?”
“Yes. I’ll head over on break.”
Dana nodded in passing to the tigress before she returned to her work, which was not as frantic as it was upon the otter’s arrival. Hopefully the front desk job had a lull, at least for Darcie’s sake. Could the job be that difficult all the time? Unlikely, if Ebra was to be believed, but first impressions were everything.
Speaking of which…
The towering canine kept her gait onward, and Dana followed behind appropriately, looking from side to side to take in the office decor. The soft carpet never left her mind, and the office air had a slight warmth to it. She feared she might fall asleep if she was not careful, so coffee or something caffeinated would have to be on her office supply list once she was acquainted with the team. The cubicle walls were a light salmon color, a welcome feeling generally permeating the whole environment.
“The team is just around this corner,” Ebra stated softly and led her to a common section of the office space. Before Dana could get much of a detailed look at her teammates, her boss called out to the others nearby. “Hello, team! Our new recruit is here. I would like you to meet Dana, she is taking over for Genievre. Care to introduce yourself?”
Dana’s mind went into automatic-resume-interview-regurgitation-mode, though as she rolled out her quick backstory, the details of her fellow coworkers became more apparent to her. With a soft giggle and wave to the group, she began her greeting as best she could.
“Y-yes. Hello! I’m Dana, and I grew up and just moved from Oaklytown a few hours drive from here up North. I worked at a law firm, and I have been looking forward to working in a big office environment in the city. I am new to all this, so...I appreciate your help when you can...provide it…”
If Ebra was correct, Dana’s teammates were three in number, although if one were to include their unborn children, the otter assumed a team size much higher than that. Standing to the left was a dark-furred boar with a blond head of hair, whose belly stretched out a flowery dress and bounced lightly as she wiggled with delight. If the level of care could be matched by a level of indifference, it would be reflected on the short hamster beside her. The green-haired hamster sat in a modified office chair, the arms having been removed to allow her the ability to even sit. Her belly filled whatever space was in front of the hamster, a red blouse holding on to her white-furred swell for dear life. Despite all the potential for buttons to become weapons, the hamster showed no care one way or the other, idly devouring from a box of donuts beside her. The third coworker, who Dana assumed was a hybrid of at least a mink or ferret, held the box closer to the ravenous hamster, and he would be the first to respond.
“Hello, Dana. Nice to meet you,” the hybrid replied, raising a hand to match her wave. His voice was smooth and mellow, almost too mellow for someone who could be working the life of an office worker, Dana thought. “I’m Edgar, or Eddy if you want. Whatever’s fine for you,”
“And I’m Mabel!” the boar chirped, bouncing where she stood for a second. Her tail wagged swiftly behind her as she continued. “Oohh, it’s so nice to see someone new in the office. I mean, Geni was great, but I can’t wait to update everything and help you out! I also do the extracurricular event planning for the floor, so if you want to help, just let me know!”
“O-oh...okay…” Dana was already being offered to do more work, and she was there for a few seconds.
“Let’s wait until she’s here more than ten minutes, Mayb,” the hamster said amid a mouthful of chocolate-covered donut. A swallow allowed her gruff-but-light voice to continue. “I’m Wendy. I work with new customers and complaints. Good to see the team growing. Are we-”
“-Dana’s the only newcomer for now, Wendy,” Ebra raised a paw. “It would be bad for everyone if we had to train two or three people all at the same time. Besides, we are in a slow period right now. I’d rather Dana get accustomed to the setting and learn the ropes from you all so we are prepared for the next quarter's reporting duties,”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
Wendy placed a paw on her immense belly, rubbing slowly against her strained top while the other paw grabbed another donut from Edgar’s box. Dana tentatively approached the trio, and Mabel waddled happily over to offer a handshake. While the energetic boar shook her hand, Dana heard Ebra walking away toward what she presumed was her office.
“Now, I have to call back an irate client. You all keep enjoying the donuts and get acquainted with Dana. I’ll be back to discuss training plans.”
Dana’s mind was racing. Was every woman in this office pregnant? And not just like regular pregnant but like BWOMF pregnant? That bunny doctor said it was protocol to take those pills, and she had been doing so since that day. Was she going to start stretching her blouse until her buttons became projectiles? Was she already pregnant, too? Was Ebra always that tall, or did she become huge in multiple ways from other things? Was Wendy going to pop right then and there? But then again...nobody seemed to be worried about it. Everyone seemed okay with the situation they were in, and outside of the hamster’s ill-fitting wardrobe and cramped elevator space, it seemed like they were accustomed to it like anything else. Maybe this was what office life in the city was about. She never saw this in the movies, so probably not. But there was at least one thing they had in common that she was okay with.
“Do you guys have donuts all the time?” Dana asked pensively, walking to another box that sat on the counter nearby.
“Oh, not everyday. If we did, Wendy would have her desk here,” Edgar joked before getting an elbow in his side and nearly falling onto the floor.
“Heh, no. Only every now and again,” the hamster responded, smirking slightly as the dude slowly returned to a full standing position. “Good thing you didn’t drop any or I’d be really upset,”
“We’re actually doing a Donut Off. Every week, someone brings in donuts from their favorite spot, and we decide which place we’ll order from going forward,” Mabel clarified. “This week is Donut Kreamies. I’d say the Chocolate Ripple Fudge Lave Cake Donut is a little TOO much chocolate, but the others are wonderfully sweet with a little hint of salt,”
“You say too much chocolate like that’s a thing,” Wendy said, again munching on another donut.
Dana giggled, “a bakery back at my place had a chocolate cake with pudding, frosting, and chocolate chips all within a dark chocolate cake. I don’t know if anything could be more chocolate than that,”
Wendy stopped munching on her donut and smirked. “You have my attention, but there is almost certainly a chocolate dessert here in the city that will compare. But if you ever bring that cake here, leave it and don’t ask where it went,”
“That would be a question filed under ‘You Live Longer If Left Unanswered,’” Eddy declared, and the group all chuckled appropriately.
While Mabel went on about another donut place she had found online to try next, Dana grabbed a straightforward strawberry-frosted donut from the box nearby. She took an experimental bite, and the flavor was a welcome delight. It reminded her of the pastries made back home, if only a little, and she felt herself calming down. She kept quiet for a time, listening to their debate about sweets and watching the two mothers idly rub their middles on occasion. She knew Ebra would emerge in due time and the work would start properly, but at that moment, Dana felt more at ease than she had since walking in the building. They seemed like nice people - even given their quirks and sizable fertility out in the open. She wondered what the job would bring, but at the moment, she was going to let that concern slide by the wayside.
She had donuts to rank, and this one was starting off pretty good.

At the moment, I am being a bit subtle about it, but generally, Much Love Corporation either hires hyperfertile workers or gives their employees medication to make them effectively hyperfertile and then some. Dr. Yasmin, for instance, doesn't show concern because she's been in the thick of things for a while, whereas here we see a few employees who might be on their second or third pregnancy right now. We will see this come to play out more as time progresses.
So far, I have implied three non-pregnant women in MLC. Dana, her friend Brittany, and Darcie at the department's front desk. Obviously some will not be pregnant all the time, and new workers will not be, either. The three pregnant women in this pic are also in different stages of their pregnancy - Wendy is further along than Mabel who is a little further than Ebra, for instance.
I hope that helps explain where the story is at right now. :)

I guess at the base level, the answer is the latter, but adding context is certainly what helps make the stories and the characters better integrated. I mean, one could ask why they are all furries, too, which is answered partly with the same explanation. Essentially, the interests are why I start with a set idea, and then explanations and stories are built around and across from that base, eventually creating all the stories and characters you see in my gallery. Specific to Dana's story, I planned a long-form comic of her entering the new world and job, but I morphed it into the meta story you will see in her images going forward.
Thinking about the why outside of that context, I would imagine part of the deal is that in this world, technology and progress is ever expanding, perhaps even developing space colonies and other immense projects that wish to send people far into the great expanse. Clearly not everyone in this world is hyperfertile - note that Dana's hometown does not appear to have anyone who is hyperfertile to her knowledge. So this could be just a dense population of such people. And Much Love Corporation may have aspirations to be the best family medical company in the world, and using their employees as equal parts workers and proof of concept customers may be their attempt to speed up that process.

And Much Love Corporation may have aspirations to be the best family medical company in the world, and using their employees as equal parts workers and proof of concept customers may be their attempt to speed up that process.
That is a cute idea. In my current thought-space, I do expect some at the top to have some semblance of understanding why they do the things they do, but when a corporation is growing big and creating new departments left and right, it probably makes a lot of the mid-to-low-rung employees unable to see the full picture.
I typically upload everything in chronological order, and you can follow the characters more or less as they progress.
For this storyline, I would start with Dana's folder https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery...../Dana-Summers/ and go from there. Yasmin has had a few pics uploaded without Dana, so from there you can see more work. This image debuts all of Dana's immediate co-workers, so this is their first image (Ebra, Wendy, Mabel, and Eddy). Also the first time the tiger receptionist is described but not shown.
You will see images uploaded by artists quite a bit in advance, so I hope you are patient to see them with their appropriate stories in the coming weeks...er months? ^^;
