Seeing quite a few anthro fish here on FA, I felt compelled to draw some of my own; another step out of my comfort zone from the usual dinosaurs and reptiles. I started the outlines for the bottom three but worked on finishing the top row first because the bottom row's pencil linings would just get messed up by my monkey hand sweat. Right from the get-go, I knew what particular species I would tackle here, that would make for interesting Anthros and settled on particular themes for each character. Admittedly, some of these took longer to figure out while some I settled on almost immediately but it was kind of fun giving each of these guys a different look and general personality, really makes them distinct in ways that go beyond being merely different-appearing fish species. I should have placed them further down, as the paper they were drawn on ended up having a giant blank space below and it made it a pain to get the top right right with the ring binding on my drawing pad.
Anyway, these guys are, from clockwise, a Swordfish lifeguard; I have seen artwork of swordfish and sailfish anthros that are depicted as absolute beefcakes so I wanted to show that. Tt's just a little hard to see with his jacket and crossed arms, the only indication that he's buff are his thick arms and broad shoulders. Next to him is a Coelacanth detective, I honestly struggled to come up with a theme for him at first before settling on a noir detective, referring to the fact that the Coelacanth was rediscovered in the mid-1930s. And the final one on the top row is a Hammerhead wrestler lady, supposed to be a GLOW type, I did like drawing her toothy grin after getting her weird head just right.
First on the bottom row is a Barracuda flapper; I don't know, the idea to make her a flapper just came to mind for some reason, it just worked. Beside her is a banana moray (or a Goldentail Moray or a Bastard Moray) who I finished first because I was interested in making him muscular. No real theme, though I guess he could always be a surfer dude, since I recall shark tooth necklaces being associated with dudebros on the beach in the 90s/late aughts. And finally, we have a Bull Shark lady, not much of a theme either, I just drew a 50s-esque dress on her and that was about it.
