Knives the Kobold and Thorlin by Jinxess
Hello mighty adventurers, seekers of fame or arcane knowledge, wielders of mighty blades, upholders of truth and justice among the dispirit kingdoms of the world or honourable mercenaries seeking to slay some evil monsters for a little honest coin
Allow me to show off this wonderful piece of artistic awesomeness drawn by the magical tablet and stylus of Jinxess a magnificent artist whom you should all be watching. Allow me to introduce you to the newest Co-star of the Adventures of the disguised dragon series, the red and tan cutie-bold who is known as Knives in the common tongue of her party members and adventuring buddies.
Knives is one of many Kobolds who served the young blue dragon known as Kalragos (The true form of the half elf Thorlin on the right there) in the years leading up to that horrible night that saw the dragon king slain and her master lost.
The Kobold who would one day become known as Knives as like many of those who came into Kalragos’s service, considered a failure by members of her old clan and the dragons they served. She wasn’t the best lair digger or trap maker, she didn’t have the artistic talent to craft precious jewellery for her master or paint stunning murals to show off their greatness… No her mind was always elsewhere dreaming of adventure, and wanderlust.
She wanted to explore, to see the world, to experience other cultures and races, how they lived, how they spent their days... and above all else she wanted to delve deep into dungeons, fighting other monsters, to become stronger and to impress those important to her.
Kalragos who was somewhat unique in the nurturing approach to the interests and talents of the Kobold’s he acquired would encourage Knives, even kidnapping an Adventurer from one of the nearby kingdoms to have them educate the young kobold in the ways of her dream career.
And when he deemed her ready to begin he sent her off on a journey to make a name for herself as an adventurer, to go and seek fame and glory, and to return periodically to share stories of her adventures to delight both him-self and the other kobolds who served him. He even bestowed upon her a pair of enchanted swords which brimmed with his own elemental electrical energy in order for her to conquer her foes.. These two swords which sized for Kobold hands were considered mere short swords or ‘Knives’ to the humans she would find herself coming into contact with. And it was these gifts from her master for which she was named by her comrades.
Her master’s encouragement and acceptance of her earned him a fierce loyalty from the little bold. And she would frequently return as he had requested to not only share stories, but to make offerings of the gold and treasure she had accumulated to add to his horde. And things continued like this until word reached her of the fall of the dragon king, of the beginning of the war between the newly conquered dragons and the human kingdoms by command of their evil new king who had installed himself upon the throne after slaying the previous ruler.
She worried for her master, for the fellow members of her tribe. But she had no way of getting back to check on them, and even if she did, she would no doubt be pressed into service against the humans she had come to enjoy the company of.
One day though, while she was resting after a dungeon subjugation quest with her comrades a half elf she recognized entered the tavern, a half elf she had seen her master transform into in times past. Her eyes wide she approached nervously, tugging on the elf’s robe to get his attention. And was greeted with a warm hand on her cheek and a soft greeting spoken in Draconic. It WAS her master, he had found her… and for the rest of the night Thorlin had a Kobold stubbornly attached to his leg, refusing to let go no matter what.
