My family was ordered to evacuate from their home farm and travel hundreds of kilometers to safety from the Soviet invasion during the Second World War.
Their father is someone on the front line fighting already and has left the role of the 'man of the house' to his 6 year old son who takes care of his sister and mother with a new born baby. Leaving in a hurry, all they could take with them from their home was their horse and cart, some seed potatoes and a coffee pot.
Over 430 000 people were evacuated from Karelia district and Petsamo regions of former Finland from 1939 through to 1944 during the Winter War and Continuation War. They were resettled around Finland in small government subsidized homesteads or requisitioned farmhouses.
There is a song about evacuees you might want to listen to: "Evakon Laulu" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GgokWTLR9I

this situation with aggressive capture of foreign lands and not returning them still today reminds me about Texas, Nevada and California. Karelia and Ingermanlandia is still in Russia, and Finnish toponims remind us whose this land was. As Mexicans desire to return their regions today, so Finns will try. I sure better we will give it back to Finland to improve relations between our countries. Russia is already too big, no bad will happen if lose little piece of soil for peace. Russia absolutely undeservedly gave huge territories in the South to ungrateful savages (by the way THESE lands we should keep own), why not give to relative white folk their native little part?
