WANTED: Discord hosts / mods
3 months agoThis is in regard to The Jaguar's Lair Discord server, therefore this post only applies to you if you regularly use Discord and are interested in joining our server and taking active roles on it.
WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR
Ultimately, a server manager (oversees everything, a stand-in for myself) and moderators (manage users and keep everything running smoothly).
Right at this moment there's no need for any of those as The Jaguar's Lair has only 7 active users, out of which only 3 are regulars. Average volume of messages is about 5 every 3 days. It's a literal snoozefest.
Naturally, you wouldn't start at a moderating position anyway. Trusting strangers with such power is a surefire way to disaster.
What I need at the moment are proactive people to keep the server alive as I focus on the development of new features. Currently I'm not only responsible for managing and moderating the server, but I'm also the sole planner and developer of its features. On top of that I'm also trying to keep it as lively as possible with regular events such as watch parties and gaming streams.
This is where you'll start at, as a host for these watch parties and gaming streams. Between planning and hosting them, I lose several precious hours every week, and these hours would be better spent on developing big new features for the server.
PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
I have big plans for the future of the Lair. Currently, I'm working on a new mainline comic with a feature to replace the original text with your own just like in Gaypardo's golden years, but now it's even better as the system will output an image file ready for you to post to your gallery and socials should you choose to – no need to visit our website to share or read it anymore. That makes it easier for you to safekeep you precious creations as well.
At the same time, I'm also developing a fursona card game, an evolution of an idea I had 10 years ago. In that version, I created the cards first, only to realize I could not make the game as engaging as I hoped when I tried to give the cards a practical use. For this new version I'm developing the gameplay before the cards are even being produced and released to make sure it works and it's fun.
Right now the engagement on the server is almost non-existent. Most events no one shows up for, given the small size of the server and a general lack of interest in such features. Therefore your tasks would be very light – there's no point in putting a lot of effort into something no one's going to care about – but the experience will help you get familiarized with the server and grow along with it.
As these two main new features are introduced, I estimate the server population will also naturally grow, and thus, your roles will also evolve to accommodate for such growth, hopefully turning you into a server moderator or manager as we go along. Though we start with no expectations and see where the tides take us.
INITIAL COMMITMENT
At most 3 hours a week, more likely close to 2. Even fewer if there are more than one candidate, as duties will be split among them.
You'll start by simply deciding what to stream and when to stream, and then you'll host that event at the chosen time.
Gaming streams are more laid-back – you just play any game, whenever you feel like. You just let me know which game that will be beforehand so I can register it in the system. I expect gaming streams to last about 2 hours each at least.
Media events require planning – picking a movie, scheduling the event and then hosting it. Initially I'll register and schedule the events; you'll just pick a movie, choose when to screen it (and make sure you can actually stream it – some video sources have digital encryption) and host the event.
Since engagement is so low, there's no point in hosting more than one event a week. Each week we can have one type of event, either a movie or game stream.
As the server grows, we increase the frequency, and can even stream series with weekly screenings. Gaming streams can be themed and hopefully we can even have a day every week to hang out and play games together. But these are all future plans.
A single person can take on both roles (movies and games) if desired, but I prefer to have at least 1 person responsible for each role in anticipation for the possible future growth. I'm willing to mentor up to 5 possible candidates, though I'm sure it'll be a challenge to find even one.
Bear in mind in the first few months it will likely be only you and me in those streams. It's going to be an uphill battle, but the silver-lining is we'll have plenty of time to perfect these events.
THE REVIEW SYSTEM
The Jaguar's Lair has a review system that keeps track of who participated in our events (either as a watcher or a player) and allows them to give scores to movies and games.
These review entries are manually created as we need them. In the first few months I'll create new entries when necessary. However, as you grow used to the server and show you're trustworthy through your engagement to the community, you'll get access to the commands to create those review entries yourself. From then on you'll be responsible for managing the events in their entirety.
For this reason, it will be useful for you to have a very basic knowledge of image editors, as those review entries all have custom-made thumbnails. I'll provide you with a template for the thumbnails, and you can use free software such as Photopea to create them. If you don't know how to use it, it should be fairly simple to get the general concept of it regardless.
COMPENSATION
I can't offer any sort of financial compensation at the moment as the Lair does not turn any profit – all money made through subscriptions are used to cover maintenance costs for our whole structure.
I hope that in the future – should the Lair ever become profitable – that I can offer some sort of payment for managerial roles, but that will most likely not happen before the next 3 years.
I have a 3-year plan for the Lair. If everything goes according to plan, it will reach its peak at the 2-year mark, with the last year standing as a trial for the future probability of it all. Until then, this is what I can offer:
* A custom hat of your choosing to be hung on your frame + avatar combo in reactions and our server announcements, like the crown for the Patrons and the beret for Artists (check our avatar system showcase for examples).
* A monthly custom avatar reaction with your character based off our default ones as depicted at the bottom of our avatar system showcase linked above. Though made specifically for our system, you can easily turn them into stickers in other apps like Telegram or Signal if you'd like.
You'll get the hat as soon as you start. The avatar reactions will be given at the end of each full month you commit to the Lair.
Of course, these roles also come with the prestige of having authority over other users, so that could also be a positive if you care about that sort of thing, but then again, my server is so small, I'm not sure how much satisfaction you could get from that alone.
If interested, leave a comment or drop me a note so we can get started!
