Now Viewing: here's_johnny!Tag type: General Tag refers to images referencing the most iconic scene from the 1980 horror movie The_Shining. In it, Jack Torrance, having completely lost his sanity, attempts to murder his wife Wendy who has locked herself in the bathroom, armed with only a knife. Jack uses an axe to tear a hole in the door so he can open the door from within the bathroom. After tearing a hole in the door, he peers through it and exclaims "Here's Johnny!" while flashing a deranged smile. Two shots from this sequence are often homaged and parodied. The first is the shot of the axe tearing a hole through the door while Wendy cries hysterically. The second is Jack sticking his head through the door and taunting Wendy with "Here's Johnny!" which is also used as the cover art for most home video releases. The line is a reference to host Johnny Carson's catchphrase during The Tonight Show. It is also notably one of the few improvisations that director Stanley Kubrick, well known for insisting that actors follow the script and his direction, allowed.
