Ok that guy needs a reality check he literally screwed up this kids life from day one up to the present day he was kidnapped by pirates being threatened to becoming a slave by said pirates and he saying he's there for a reason and asking for help

Okay, this is just my take but here is what Mason should do: He will help them win the war because it is the right thing to do. But he will reject the throne and any notion of friendship with the rebels and will probably not make it pleasant for them. And when it's all over, he will want nothing to do with his father. That's just me though.
