im trying to mess with color more, im awful at it. i dont know how to think of cool color combos or shades or anything ): I wanna just "practice" but i dont know if im even learning anything from it.

One thing you can do with this sort of thing is, if you want your subject to pop out a little more, you can try darker colors on your subject - or in any case, the rule 'closer objects get darker colors'. It creates the illusion of depth - you can see the sky one has a little of that going on.

As far as shokupanman is concerned, I see what you're doing, and you can definitely get away with it - although, in this case, I think having the blue stripes in the background be a little more frequent or prevalent would help the character to be better-defined. It's a neat effect though!
