You might not believe it, but this is not actually a new piece of writing. This thing is about three years old.
That begs the question of why it took me so long to post it, but that's something I'd like to keep to myself. I'm posting it now, and that's good enough.

Some might recognize this, but this is Gabby. Or a ponified version of her. Mifmaf allowed me to write a story about this character and more or less have fun with her when I desire. I fell in love with her immediately. It's hard to say why, exactly, but I think it was the smile. Something about it was so ridiculously sweet and innocent to me. I immmediately wanted to cherish that smile and bring it all the joy I could.
Thus this came about. I have this weird tendency to be very 'opposite' with themes and ideas. Partly to be contrary, partly because it's just fun. Gabby as she was in my head wasn't right as a main character, and I find the idea is more fun to take care of and be with her. So Tide was created to be kind of flawed as Gabby teaches him to adore life and love and appreciate everything he has, even if it's just a little more more than just enough.
This story also came about because I got sick of stories that were way too freaking dramatic. The irony of this is palapable since the other thing I working now is so full of angst, but that I feel deserves it because of the situation. The book High Tide reads by himself kind of mocks the story that made me throw up my hands and decided I needed some happiness in my life. If you're going to write about something like this, the tone should be happy and silly and playful. So I made it a point to never allow anyone to be sad in this story. Not that being sad is bad, again, the other story I'm working on is full of sadness and equal parts comfort and joy, but for this story I wanted to prove it's possible to make a story that can have tension and 'rising action' without resorting to misery and frowns. So here we go.
Incidentally, another random inspiration of this is the Irish stories of mythical kelpies.
I very much hope you enjoy this as much as I do.
And sorry it's so freaking LONG.

Read thsi wonderful story first as this comment contains spoilers!
*-* I really enjoyed reading every word of this wonderful story. The pacing of it and the character development of High Tide, that he grew slowly more accepting of Gabby and he wondered less and less about her odds, was really neat. In my opinion it also isn't too long, I would gladly read more of it: What they did when they visited her parents or just them interacting with themself or the townsfolk. But as it seems that will have to happen in my daydreams :D where I explore your little world of the story a bit more. Thank You!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. It... well, it touched my heart someone commented so thoughtfully on this. Even that you wanted to comment twice for different feelings points in the story.
I know what you mean about 'moods', and that's why I wrote this story. I was in one, and I wanted to read something like it. I had to write it myself because it didn't exist, and I wanted it to exist for others when they were in that mood. I... wish I could read something like this that someone else made. But I'm happy I could give this to you. I wanted a story where a foal and her daddy could just, be cuddly. and my favorite way to see that happen is organically, to see how we reached that point.
Feel free to talk to me any time. I'd love to hear those thoughts and help you share them with me. :)

This is probably my favourite one of your stories. It's very wholesome throughout; Gabby and High Tide are such an adorable pairing. It's nice to see them getting closer and sharing more moments as the story progresses, and seeing Gabby's childish nature rubbing off onto Tide.
I do wonder what transpired at Gabby's Daddy's house during the three odd weeks Tide spent there, though.

Wow, your favorite? That's nice to hear, thank you. This was, and still is, a favorite of mine, and I love it still. This was meant to be a challenge to tell a story that didn't have a traditional bad-guy antagonist, but still had conflict. It was all internal as High Tide tried to understand his feelings.
As for that they got up to at Gabby's Daddy's house... that's a secret~ But truthfully, Gabby's daddy was always intended to be something like a "King of the Seas" character, the god of the oceans. While there, Tide saw the world Gabby came from and realized there's a lot more magic in the world than he first thought, and can see things from Gabby's perspective.
