idk. I mean do you think theyd take offense if you said so? Ive done that with alot of artists, and at the very least it lets you know if theyre cool people or not. I mean you cant help it if they have issues, right?

I get more nervous the artist/person/etc is gonna think I'm a wierdo or creep or just trying to cuddle up to get free stuff ; -;

I think with most, if you just treat them like you would anybody else then they'll be more than willing to speak back.

A quick "I really like your work", comments, perhaps asking if they'd like to speak more, and that's it. After all, the worst thing that can happen is they say "no".

Oh man, I know how that feels!
I'm super shy in general, so talking to just about anyone can be hard. But trying to talk to a person you really admire is MUCH worse!
Afraid to come off as some weirdo fan or something. lol Or just not knowing what to say.

I think its natural to feel that way about someone you admire, and that it just takes a bit of courage and time to feel more comfortable around them, I know I personally felt the same way about a lot of my current friends, but just confront these people and say how you feel, there is certainly no harm in doing so, and I'm sure they would appreciate kind words.

For instance, I know I'm totally impressive and intimidating, but you shouldn't feel shy sayin' hello! I love makin' friends. I'm a totally awesome person that way.

The feeling is mutual, but I also feel like that in regards to practically all people. I know how difficult that sort of thing can be.

To be honest I know that exact feeling, infact I can't really even try making friends with someone unless they have expressed some interest in getting to know me first.......there have been a number people I would love to talk to on Skype.....but I just can't.

Yeah, I definitely know that feeling. I have a lot of friends on skype, but I'm usually too shy/worried about bothering people to even contact them.

My extroverted friend solves this problem by just blurting out
bits of compliment until that becomes easy, and then you gradually
progress in social interaction, kinda like leveling up a skill-tree
in an RPG — You start with telling a stranger you like their hair
or how their outfit looks, and then work your way towards stuff like
"you mean the world to me and I don't know what I would do without
you; please, never stop being you".

I'm not a complete specialist on the topic, not even a people's person, but I think the Internet allows an easier way to express your opinion and your thoughts... I think of it this way: it is easier to write a meaningful sentence than saying it face to face (That sounded a lot better inside my head, I swear).

All I can say is that you are not alone. I think most of us have felt that way sometime, so there is no shame in saying so. People can be intimidating. But be sure that every watch, every comment, every shout, and even every fave is a big step towards a nice friendship: it means much more than a plain "I like your art".

I know the feeling. I freak out when an artist I admire replies to a message from me, and I practically have a heart attack when one actually contacts me. And for what little following I have, the ones that have wanted to be friends are—for the most part—really nice people. The last friendship I made really backfired though, and that was because he sought me out randomly and out of desperation, and constantly asked me if he was my best friend, and also constantly reminded me of a request that he wanted that was a LOT of work. His behavior got to be too much for me.

BUT at this same time there are a lot of nice people out there who are more than willing to have a nice conversation with ya. :)

Just go for it. Be casual and laidback. If someone gets angry because of you trying to be friendly, changes are they didn't really deserve your attention to begin with. I'm sure there are a lot of people in here that would love to bond with you socially.

telling someone you love their stuff, in a genuine way, not a give-me-free-stuff way, is always appreciated ;u; and i dont think its bad either to say "hey we have a lot in common, do you wanna chat sometime?" idk to me i think it shows you've paid attention to their interests well!!

like every one else is saying- be your self and cast your anxity. i felt the same way when i tried talking to people on this site, but you got to remember this is the internet, every one doesn't know you. this makes everyone on neutral grounds with everyone. plus they probly have something in common with you to.
